Just started playing golf after a 10 year layoff. I'm striking the ball well but 75% of the time I'm pulling the ball to the left. The best way to describe it would be a straight pull with a slight hook at the very end.
I've tried opening my clubface...still pulling it.
Interestingly when I aim right of the target to compensate THEN I hit it straight and end up right of the target. I'm beginning to wonder if there is a sinister force at work here!
Is it a problem with my swing plane, my ball placement, my allignment or what? Any suggestions to cure this would greatly appreciated.
Your shoulders will be making the wrong movement from the top. Probably your shoulder starts turning before you start bringing the arms down. You need to start the arms dropping into the slot at which point you can turn all you like.
Yeah, to hit on what NikeSlingshot06 said, stand with your feet together and hit half shots with a short iron. Forget how far your hitting it and groove your path to hit the ball along a line parallel to your feet. 9/10 times I'm in a funk and I do this, I see I pull my shots and have to work on getting back on path.
It is probably your swing plane, grip, posture and/or alignment. Hope that narrows it down for you. Slowing down your swing as the others suggest is a good start though.
Iv had a simalar problem for the last few months and have tried all sorts to fix it,what seems to have done the trick for me is to weaken my grip (move my right hand back towards my left hand ) It felt awful at first but it seems to have done the trick....for now!!
Its worth a try.
Always check grip and alingment first. Assuming you are a rightie, how many knuckles do you see on your left hand? Where is the V between your thumb and forefinger on the club (directly on top, between top and side, etc).
I have a problem of "pulled shots " that tries to creep into my game. To correct this at my first move down I make sure the clubhead and shaft remain BEHIND my hands. Trying to remain passive with my hands on this move down is counterintuitive to me as I want to attack the ball right away. If I attack to early my swing plane is shifted to the left and I get a straight pull.
I've been working on correcting it. and had some very great success. My drives have gone from a duck hook to where I'm consistently hitting it 275 with only a minor draw or fade (with just the occasional hook now)
It seems my biggest problem is that my rotation was way too quick and went past my central axis (swaying past my axis). I've been concentrating on keeping my rotation firmly on axis.
My other swing thoughts are
strive for good timing and tempo between shoulders, forearms and wrists
more upright swing plane. I believe the top of my backswing was too flat.
I swear nothing beats the feel of crushing a golf ball 290 yards when you really connect with one....better than sex...ALMOST!!...lol
