Where should I seek out help?

Hello everyone. I'm new to GR and I'm thinking about attending a golf school early next season. My first question is if I should attend a golf school? and if so what golf school should I attend (David Ledbetter's golf academy or another highly ranked teacher, or local Virginia or Maryland school)?

I have had personal lessons before. Two different five lesson series from different instructors. The first time the guy was trying to teach me the single plane swing. This worked for a while for me, but I eventually fell apart. The second time the guy try to make many different changes, but I wasn't making any progress during the lesson or after during practice sessions on my own or on the course.

For a while I was going to the range 2-3 times a week and hitting at least 60 balls. I also started off the season really good by shooting an 84 (I have no idea what I did that day), but now I’m struggling to break 100. To say the least I am very frustrated.

So I’m thinking that a school might be the best option right now for me. I think that a couple of days of constant and productive practice could be the trick. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Re: Where should I seek out help?

I have had 4 series of lessons from 4 different instructors. That was mostly a waste of time and money. I cannot recommend any golf schools, but I'm thinking that would be very expensive.

I have tried over 20 books and videos. The only instruction I have found that works really well for me is "The Golf Swing And It's Master Key Explained" by Noel Thomas, GOLF SWING MASTER KEY. I don't know if it will work for you, but it might be worth trying before spending money on a golf school.

I don’t suggest the schools either because they throw too much too fast before your muscle memory can react. They are OK if just for a vacation for an intermediate player, but rally too much info to quick.

A better approach is a series of lessons one-week apart. A good instructor will step you through with one drill at a time. This way you have a full week to practice your drill to ingrain it into your swing before moving on to the next step.

For example a complete beginner may spend the first two weeks just learning how to stance, posture, aim, set up, and grip the club before the instructor will even advance to a take-away. If you cannot assume the position quickly without thinking about it, there is no chance of executing a good swing.

Hope that helps.

I think a school by a top-ranked teacher would definately be good based on their reputation, but I agree with dereckbc. Learning golf is a slow process. You have to mentally comprehend the lesson and then take time to apply it to your swing physically. It's not like a semester of triginometry where you learn 2 or 3 new formulas every day.
