Draw problem with driver

Hi I am currently having some problems with my driver, it seems when i put a hard swing into the ball i tend to hit a nasty hook. When I slow my swing a little bit it is usually straight and long. I usually place the ball in the front of my stance with it teed up to the upper portion of the club face.

I am wondering if my shaft is too whippy for my swing. It is the shaft in my sig, Fuki 26.3 stiff flex which I heard are a little overrated for their flexes compared to other shafts. I carry the ball around 275 on a good drive.

Any tips would be appreciated.

I am not swinging as hard as I can, I am working on increasing my swing speed, I feel that my tempo is pretty smooth

Re: Draw problem with driver

I have the same problem and have found it to be me. When I swing at 80% i hit my burner straight and long, well 240 carry which is long for me. However when I swing harder my I tend to hang on my back foot just slightly causing a snap hook. Try two things, work more on the weight shift to the front foot and move the ball a tad closer to center until you get your timing right. I'm working on it myself and so far those two things are helping the most.

Re: Draw problem with driver

I had the same driver you do last Spring when they first came out.

The Fuji Tour Platform really likes to be swung with a smooth tempo. I think the torque is around 3.8 degrees and the tip is soft. I had my shaft changed to a ProForceV2 65. Callaway actually switched it for free after I called them and told them my problem.

Same here - Last night when I swang easy and concontrated on weight transfer the ball went straight. When I tried to really uncork one the nasty snap hook returned. For now I will swing easy and see how it works long term.

Re: Draw problem with driver

Does the Callaway X460 have too much offset? I also understand that its face is a couple degrees closed. That could promote excessive draw when you swing "too fast" (i.e. too fast for that set up).

Edit: I see that you use the tour model, which doesn't have offset and has the face squared, so ignore my question if this is right.

same comments about the Fuji shaft....I notice that when I try to put some heat on a drive my grip tends to tighten on the downswing...the tightening of the grip tends to close the clubface a hair and promotes a hook

Re: Draw problem with driver

Try teeing the ball slighy lower, and not so far forward. I have the x460 Tour with the same shaft. I was losing everything left, not now!!

Re: Draw problem with driver

Amazing we use to just buy Clubs in the day and they had whatever shafts camre with them. So many people seem to need specific shafts these days. It sure is funny how many people like me have developed nasty hooks with their Driver only.
If it is not the Clubs the only thing I can figure out is that maybe when I swing my driver hard my weight transfer is too slow and my hands get out in front.
This week when I play I will try swinging easy again and see if I hit more Fairways like last time.
But i still would like to go to a fitting center and see if there is a Shaft that will let me bomb away.
I sure swing my 3 Wood hard and have never hooked it.

Re: Draw problem with driver

I hit a couple buckets at the range today and was hitting a lot more of them straighter. What I did was move the ball back a little bit in my stance and increase my backswing speed, and it seems to have helped a lot.

Re: Draw problem with driver

Yes when i backswing too slow I think too much and become too mechanical instead just letting it go naturally
