Is it a slice if a ball starts out straight and curves to the right? That's what my ball flight is lately. The ball starts out straight and falls about 5-10 yards to the right. If it is a slice is there any drills to fix it?
Hi nj21 easily fixed. You have a fundamental fault in your alignment , grip or swing plane. One lesson from your friendly Pro will alert you to the fault and from there hard work & practice is the key.
5 - 10 yards is definitely a fade and not a slice. if you can hit this shot regularly you are definitely in good shape.
Having a draw or a fade gives you a tremendous advantage. Let me explain. Assume you are on the tee box with the fairway out in front of you. If you are inconsistent you must aim for the middle of the fairway. You then have a 50% margin of error on either side of the middle of the fairway. If however you consistently hit a fade (or a draw) you can aim down the left (or right) hand side of the fairway and have the entire fairway as a margin of error! So with a fade if you suddenly hit a big slice you should still be ok.
the only time when either a fade or draw is not so cool is when the fairway is a dog leg in the wrong direction and you can't work the ball in that direction!
I hope all that makes sense.
I think I might have found out how to get rid of my slice. It seems that if I have a early wrist cock I don't slice the ball. I don't know why that makes it not slice but it seems to work. It must have something to do on how I release the club.

Yes this sounds like a Fade and not slice. Personally i would pinpoint it down to grip. Try a stronger grip and see what happens, how many knuckles can you see on your left hands? Does the V between your thumb and finger point to your right shoulder?
I agree with the above, if you can control it i would stick with it, few professionals have a slight fade, i think KJ Choi is one!
But if you want to fix it, i go with grip. Aligenment or swing path 75% of the time leads to a left to right ball flight and not stright to slight right!
Open club face does not put as much spin on the ball, as an open club face swinging outside to in
