Question Role of the abs in the swing?

A few days ago, while taking some practice swings, I could really feel my abs contracting on the down swing. It was a great feeling, and something I’ve never felt in the swing before. I normally feel the muscles in my mid section coil and then uncoil on the down swing, but this was different. This was more of a contraction similar to a crunch, but again it felt great. It seemed to add extra power to the swing, but also seemed require less effort from the rest of the body. Unfortunately, I haven’t felt that since. I now have a couple of questions about this. First, should I even feel my abs contracting in the down swing? Second, if so why am I having such a hard time getting that feel again?

Re: Role of the abs in the swing?

Tiger seems to have a similar abs crunch position on his downswing to impact. Search for a swing vision video on YouTube and the truth shall be revealed...

If you can get ripped abs, you can use them to make lots of speed, more distance. Takes less stress of everything else

Re: Role of the abs in the swing?

This wasn't a crunch position (I don't think?). It felt similar to a crunch as far as the use of the abs, but the position itself felt perfect. My spine felt straight as an arrow with no pressure. It also added a lot of power without using the shoulders. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to do it again.

P.S. Laugh it up guys. I’m absolutely killing the golf ball right now. I’ve gone from avg 240yds with the driver to 270+. I’m not even sure what distance I’m getting when I really connect with one now. If contractions will add more yards (with control) to that I’ll give birth to a watermelon.

Re: Role of the abs in the swing?

I remember reading somewhere it is about maintaining the angle at address that exists between the top of the right thigh and the midsection (for right handers)...see if that image brings back the magic...
