Re: my swing

That was a great looking swing for only a few months of playing. I would suggest that you watch Ringer's videos starting with posture.

Re: my swing

Posture and relax. Good fundamentals though. Especially for the short period you have been playing.

Re: my swing

I would suggest that you work on straighting your back. It looks like you're slumped over in your set-up. You then want to maintain that spine angle in your swing. Posture could definitely play a role in your bad shots. Good posture promotes consistency. Do a search on YouTube for Steven Bishop, search this forum for Ringer and follow the links, or go to his home page. He's got some great video's on the swing including the set-up.

Re: my swing

Alright I think you hit the ball left on that first video so I'm basing this off that:

First off, looks good. I just want to shed my two cents on generating more power.

Posture! Yes, you are slumping.

I think you should stand back just a little bit. You don't want to be standing right over the ball because it's hard to drop the hands with the body movement going down.

I think you are either one of the two when addresing the ball: A. turning the clubhead towards the left (perhaps a slice in the past?) or B.you are pushing the shaft way left of the ball. You don't need to do either of those.

Watch the video of Tiger's swing. Do you see that plane he ascends with? Also watch his wrists. You want to sort of "cock" them at the top so that when you come down, they roll over and you generate power.

Ok, when you come back, work on getting a nice 90degree turn with the shoulders. Before you do anything with shoulders/waist/arms, you need to like push out with the thighs. This will bring your hands down on that perfect plane (I like in to out). Keep your head down. It seems that you are trying to replicate some fancy kind of finish; don't worry about that. Head down, follow through and the ball should take off, hopefully with a nice draw :)

Oh, one more thing. Your divot looked like a chunk. Work out some kind of routine to come down on the ball, making the divot after it.

thanks for the advice! yes that ball did go about 10 yards left in the first video. also the posture thing i saw after you and the other guys pointed it out. i think i have fixed that by straightening my back and bending at my hips and not with my back.

as for the shoulder turn, is there any advice, hints, things to watch for to know my shoulder turn is proper? any advice on cocking the wrists properly to release? i am new to golf and am too stubborn to go get a lesson (i am just that way) so i am still pretty in the dark with most of it. the finish wasn't really fabricated, though. that's just how it went.

the reason the divot may have looked so big is because it was more dirt than grass ... ? i didn't feel that shot was fat or anything? how big should the divot be?

thanks for all your insights and feel free to add more. i can take it.

Re: my swing

Most of the answers your looking for are in Ringer's video's, and they're free. Watch them, all of them! I think you'll also be pleasantly surprised to see how well you're doing compared to the positions he advocates?

Re: my swing

I dont' have sugnificant time to study your swing in great detail but here are some quick observations.

You are leaning over the ball too much. Try to get a bit more flex in your knees and stand a little taller.

On your finish, dont let the club point in the air. It should point toward the ground, while keeping your elbows out in front of you. You're comming accross your body on the followthrough which is why your hands are way out past your left shoulder instead of over the shoulder. Get the back of your right hand to face your ear instead of the sky.

Your backswing pivot is fantastic, but you aren't getting off your right foot at all on the forward swing.

Remember, it's not about TWISTING your body.. it's about THROWING the club toward the target. And just like in baseball if you're going to throw towards something your whole body has to move toward that something.

So get your weight off that back foot. Try dragingin the toe of your back foot on the ground like I demonstrate in this drill..
