Getting the ball to stop

When I was golfing today there is this one thing that kept happening. I couldn't get the ball to stop on the green. There was so many shots today where my ball landed in the middle of the green and rolled off the back. So I was wondering if there is any tips on how to get the ball to roll less.

Thanks

What is your trajectory like? It seems anymore I hit the ball very high so they land soft even with a distance ball. Are the Greens really hard in your area?

My trajectory I would say is high. The greens are usually fast at the course I always play it but they were soft today because of all the rain.

Probably not catching the ball low enough on the face which is going to reduce spin. I suppose you are talking about second shots to the green and not pitches and chips.

Re: Getting the ball to stop

you need to use a softer ball and hit the ball in the grooves, usually acceleration through the ball gets spin rate up

Do you usually get them to stop on the course you always play? If so, what changes have you made?

First and most pertinent question to ask... what ball do you play? Don't worry about changing your swing until you are playing with a ball that you can actually spin. If the ball you play is marked anywhere on the cover with the word "distance" or "long", then the odds are that you will continue to have the problem. On a course with fast, firm greens, spin is essential, and you will have trouble with anything but a mid to high end control ball.

I now play the Srixon ZURC, a good urethane covered ball that gets good spin, and I can even stop my 22° hybrid within about 15 feet of the pitch mark on a typical shot. That is...on the rare occasion that I actually hit the green with that club....

Yea today I was using old Titleist Dt Distance balls. But I usually use Nike Power Soft's. And I have the same problem with them too. I loose to many balls to be paying for the good ones.

I use these, Pro V's and Nike One's now and I've really been liking the NXT's lately. The spin on them is great imo

Re: Getting the ball to stop

your not hitting the ball high if you can't get them to stop on soft greens. I can take a top flite and get it to stop within a foot when I hit it high. Most decent balls either stop right next to its ball mark (soft greens) or a foot or so back when hitting high and greens are harder.

Re: Getting the ball to stop

I totally agree with Viper as I've always had a high ball flight and if greens are soft I very seldom even see a shot more than a few feet from its' ball mark. I've even had a 4 iron short of its landing mark.

Try the Topflite D2 feel balls. They are 15.99 for 15 balls and they will hold the greens well. For the money you can't hardly get much better in performance.

Re: Getting the ball to stop

Yes like stated above my ball is usually 6"- 5 feet from my ball mark depending on the club I hit. Last week I hit a 3 Wood off the tee on a long Par 3 and it had no problem holding the green. And this was with a Top Flight D2 Distance. I have a new respect for those balls after giving them a serious try last round.
