Here's how you hit a hybrid ...

Like a bloody iron! I finally solved this great mystery. For the longest time that was the one club in me bag that I couldn't hit worth beans. Because I've heard many times that you hit a hybrid different from other clubs, that it's a wide sweeping gentle swing, etc. Poppycock!! You hit it just like you do any other iron and works fine. I was finally able to get out to a range to work all this out.

Yep sometimes I forget and try to hit it like a Fairway Wood and it's causes me to shank or slice the Hybrid. You have to pretend it is a regular Iron.

Right, so I'm not so happy right now about all those that like to offer their being wrong causing me to waste a lot of time. Guess it's a lesson learned in ignoring gratuitous lessons.

Always figured if its is there to replace a 3 iron ,then its getting hit/swung like one. Works as well.

Re: Here's how you hit a hybrid ...

On the fairway I mostly hit down on it like I would an iron, but if I'm sitting pretty in the rough, I hit it like a fairway wood(metal). I don't think there's only one way to hit it. It's an extremely versitile club and I have great success with it now that I've learned how to use it properly. It took a lot of experimenting but I finally figured it out....for me.

Totally agree with this I'll use it off the tee like a wood, but on the fairway like an iron. Actually I hit all my clubs like this. When I tee off with an iron I don't really swing down on the ball. I'll actually just sweep it off the tee.

I only have one hybrid- a 3 and I never really got comfortable hitting it. I hit my 3 iron better than I hit the hybrid, just not as high. Maybe I'll have to bring it out of the closet and give it another try...

Congrats on figuring it out gintonic. I figured it out myself about a year ago.
Wait 'til you figure out the knock-down with it. It's fantastic on windy days. Hit down, finish low.

Yeah, I'll use in deep rough if I think I can get the club on the ball squarely - but then I'm hitting down on it....if I'm really deep, I'll go with a mis iron...mostly a 6.

Much of the Internet advice is worth exactly what you paid for it . . .

Re: Here's how you hit a hybrid ...

Your TaylorMade Rescue Mid is designed this way more than other hybrids, as well. I know from both personal experience and other reviews.

That said, even on your fairway woods, your clubface should strike the ball with a slightly-descending approach.
