I went to the range yesterday and I noticed that when I kept loose (kept on moving, sort of like a tennis player waiting for a serve or a boxer prancing around his opponent before he delivering that KO punch...it felt like that it was more of an athletic movement than a deliberate type of movement...sort of just "feeling the swing" instead of thinking it) as I did this I imagined my shot and how I will hit it and where I will make it land....everything just fell into place and then...boom! nice shot!
Like clearing the mind up and just focusing on the shot and "feeling" what I needed to do to make that shot.
I think I just kinda looks weird because I was thinking that I looked like the energizer bunny with a new set of batteries!
The swing isn't only athletic, but the set-up too.
Yeah I did everything "by the book" set up correctly, aligned correctly...my so called athletic motion was right before the shot....
Guys don't get me wrong I didn't do it like happy gilmore but I was just referring to at as similar to an athletic motion because I was "feeling the shot" so to speak....
If I could describe my moves it would be like this:
Set up correctly, align correctly....keeping the spine tilt....
"i look at the target, look at the ball, look back at the target, look at ball....all while doing a series of waggles, trying to feel the clubhead, while keeping my lower body loose "sort of going with the motions of my waggles....and then when I "feel" that everything is right....swing!"
Thats what the waggle is for. To stay loose. To Flow. Everybody has seen the guy who hangs over the ball for 20 seconds like a statue and then shanks it into the woods. Static is bad - fluid is good.
I always thought that the golf swing was an exact series of movements that had to be pieced together to hit the ball well and I have spent my life as a 30+ handicapp
I finally took a couple lessons and told my swing coach I had a baseball background He had me swing my club as if it were a baseball bat. The point being I didn't stop and think about how to swing the bat, I simply executed an athletic movement I have done my entire life. The same thing should apply to the golf swing. Get in there, and be an athlete.
This frame of mind made an amazing difference in my set up, my waggle, my confidence and the end result which now has me down to a 10 handicapp after two months and three lessons. I think to many times we over analyze our golf swings. Was my set up correct, did I take the club back wrong, did my wrist hinge correctly, did I start my lower body first on the way back down.
oh yes! I think that's what I'm doing, staying fluid baby! hahaha!
Well I'm going to try it on the course tomorrow, we'll see what happens.
Hey,
I agree this will work, but might not work forever. Let me know how long this works on the course, I'm curious. I think what is key is to be aware of how tense you really are. Sometimes you can too tense but you will not notice.
You may want to read the first chapter of a book called "On the sweet spot". I don't recall the author, but the first chapter will definitely catch your attention.

Yes, I'm seeing myself toning down the pre-shot routine in the future but so far if it works, why not?
Thanks for the book, i'll try to look for it....
Pubrat13, nice input...that put a little validation on this style that I am trying...10 handicap is great!!
