Re: over the winter...

If you're going to walk next year, I'd suggest walking over the winter. If it's not too cold outside, bundle up and get some fresh air. Maybe get a cheap treadmill for the really frigid days.

I think the only excercise that'll prepare you for walking is... walking.

Walking the course will make you feel great after a while. It really is a good cardiovascular workout to walk those couple miles with a 40 pound bag on your back!

Re: over the winter...

I did a 12 week program last winter on SonicBoomGolf that I found helpful and reasonable. You fill out a response to questions and a tailored exercise program is sent to you. You do not need fancy equipment.

I had to do squat's, lunges, and movements with a weighted medicine ball, and other dynamic movement exercises. It was relatively easy to follow and 3 days a week. You pick your program.

The key I found was increased flexibility, strength, and improved balance. My swing in the spring was the best it has been in years. I wish I had the committment to do these exercises year round.

Re: over the winter...

When its to cold or the course is closed,i tend to do some hill walking especially when there is some snow on the hills, you cant beat the solitude and the beauty of nature on a cold clear winter day.
