i took a couple of weeks off golf because of the weather and now ive been going up practising and i cannot hit a golf ball for the life of me, its as if ive lost any skill ive ever had, i cant hit anything, ive not pured a shot on the course or put it stiff on one shot in the last few times ive been on the course, i honestly dont know whats happening! the only thing thats stayed the same is my putting.
This happens to me too. I think when I take time off, I find the my swing becomes steeper and I tend to get stuck and cannot release the club on time. Usually late, causing me to block shots. Then I compensate and release too early and pull shots. I think it all boils down to timing and tempo. So, what I've started to do (when this happens) is go to the range and work on relaese. I hit about 15 or 20 balls just taking the club back to about 9 o'clock and then releasing into the ball. I don't worry too much about distance, just direction. Then as I start making better contact, I make longer and longer swings.
Get a bucket of balls and using youre wedge or 9-iron,go through them all concentrating on hitting through the ball, making a full follow through. this is what i do finds it gets me back on track.

anyone been here or any tips?
thanks guys.
I am not at your level but I know what you feel. I just lived through that nightmare for 3 months straight and was so close to giving the game up. I had a bad back and my hands were hurting!
I even bought a house on the golf course! Talk about a painful reminder that would have been!
I cannot tell you how I changed but a lesson did help get me back in the right direction (I had a reverse pivot, rushed the backswing, wrong grip, no follow through and improper weight shift). I was a mish-mash of uncoordinated flesh! Despite that, I could swing a Medicus iron perfectly. I could even hit a ball with it but I couldn't hit another club in the bag. All wormburners. Poor worms!
I suspect your problem is your trying to HIT the golf ball. That's a serious problem.
Relax, take small backswings, learn to have solid contact on the sweetspot with small swings, then larger swings, and for good sakes, never try to hit the ball. Always swing through the ball and be totally relaxed. Stop using your MUSCLE.
I have this same problem, i was all league on my high school golf team this year, after the season i took 38 days off, and when i came back i dont think i wouldve broken 70 (for 9 holes) and i found that going back to the basics helped me the most. just taking smooth easy swings, and not trying to do anything complicated, and after about a week im back on track.
this problem dosent happen to me...i have a Corn Field in my pack yard so im hitting balls every day then going to get them its a good work out and i stay fresh
Because I live in an Igloo and have to hunt Polar bears for 4 months of the year I too have felt the terrible bite of Rust on my Game. Never fear a week of golf and a little work at the range and you'll be fine.
