When I changed grip it didn't feel right either....but it sure worked and after a few rounds it felt pretty good too. Give it some time and keep track of the results.
If you feel you are too close to the ball and you are feeling uncomfortable, you are on the right track. Usually when you feel like you're in the comfort zone you are standing too far from the ball and will hit shots to the right.
You could bend a little more at the hip to get a tad closer to the initial target. You could also get a little more compact with the arms and torso. Otherwise, if you're really a novice golfer, you're looking in pretty good form.
My issues are that I hit a lot of balls with left to right action. I am sure that this is due to my downswing starting with my arms rather than my hips. The standing closer thing was suggested by another user in a different forum.. but my REAL problem has not gone away.
You have a pretty good swing. Some things I noticed: Straighten out your back a touch more, and stick your butt out a bit more in the process. Also, try to keep your left foot planted: Make slight adjustments to your swing as necessary to achieve that. I do not think that you need any major adjustments. You are a great novice golfer!
Hard to tell that you take back with your arms vs. your hips in that video. Do you have another angle?
I do agree with another post that your posture should be more balanced. You do seem a little upright more than anything. By bending more at your hips you will actually extend yourself a bit more which will promote a more right to left action as you come thru. From this video your takeaway looks good to me.
You look a little tense before the swing. Try a smoother waggle.
Do you feel like you're swinging with mainly your arms - as opposed to shifting your weight and having your arms follow in sequence? It looks like an 'arms only' type of swing. You must get tired rather quickly after a bucket of balls. I had this type of swing and I was exhausted playing 18 holes.
What do you think? You're starting to develop a good looking swing. It's not perfect but no swing is. Even the tour players have imperfections and idiosyncrasies that are unique to their swing. One swing is flatter and the next more upright. Your at the point that you need to make some decisions about what you want your swing to look like. The reason for this is that there are many different types of advice and all could work. You could change your grip, your swing plain, your release, and/or your setup. All could help keep you from hitting balls to the right, but what is your end goal? If your goal is to just not hit balls to the right then strengthen your grip and stand even closer, but be prepared to start snap hooking them. This will accomplish your goal of not missing to the right. If your goal is more control then think about a flatter swing. That introduces a new set of issues though. You need to decide what good and bad characteristics you are willing to accept. In other words what type of swing do you want along with its characteristics. Right now you have a very steep swing and a lot of arm action. This tends to produce distance (club head speed), but not much control. Now, where do you want to go from here?
