Power Gap

Last night when i was at the driving range i was really focused on hitting my 7 iron 150+ and no matter hor hard or soft i tried to hit it, it would only go 100 yards. also i noticed with all of my other irons 9 thru 3 irons i couldnt even get past 100 with my 9 and 150 with my 3 idk what it was or what i was doing but something was goin wrong... i was hitting my driver and my wedges fine.... i only hit my wedges up to 50 yards max.

Re: Power Gap

I know some ranges use balls that only go a fraction of the distance of a standard ball so i would agree with the previous post.

Re: Power Gap

I disagree. You should be able to hit a 7 iron more than 100 yards. Focus on your technique, swing speed. Get a lesson.

P.S. What's your handicap? I will guess it's about 30+. If I'm right, just continue learning the game and practice what you've learned. You wil hit that 7 iron more than 100 yards eventually but will depend on how much time you'll put into it. Good luck!

Re: Power Gap

what is your ball flight, if it is real straight but high, there will be several suggestions to fix this...

most notably: hitting down on the back of the ball...what do you divots look like!

If you are hitting range balls from mats, then don't take anything that happens there very seriously. I will not hit anything but my driver when the range is on mats... hitting irons from fake grass gives you zero useful feedback. And that's my

Could be that you are not rotating your boby in your backswing & downswing when using your short irons. If you are hitting normal distance with your driver and longer irons, then your short iron problem is not caused by poor range balls.

Re: Power Gap

shadyb,

If you're not getting any distance your hitting the ball with your hands and arms with an early release. Focus on turning your body back and through together. Feel this: At address, assuming you're a righty, make sure your upper left arm is connected to your outer left pec (chest) and then turn your body back and through. Your swing will feel shorter and tighter so start with a short iron and make 3/4 swings. When you get your arms and body swinging together correctly you will feel effortless power. Let me know if that works.

If you would like more info on a simple swing I'm teaching my students visit my website below.
