How high do you tee your ball up for a driver that is 400 cc + in size?
If I am grounding the club, I find it better for me to set the ball's equator just above the center of the face.
If I hover, I set the equator of the ball just at the level of the crown but I still set up the ball's equator just above or at the driver face's center.
What do you do? Does the varying height change the ball flight? Is hitting above the 'sweet spot' adding loft?
Re: How high do you tee up the ball for your driver?
On a drive I want to hit down the middle with maybe a fade or a slight draw, I'll tee it so the ball is halfway above the club(I ground the club). If I want/need a lower ball flight, I'll tee it lower and punch the drive kinda like Tiger does with his 3 or 5 wood off then tee. If I need to get the ball way up in the air, I'll tee it higher and catch it more on the upswing.
My natural trajectory is pretty low to begin with though.

I yse a 460cc 10.5 degree driver. I try to keep the ball flight medium height which gives me max distance. Thus I tee the ball up about 1.5" and play the ball 3" back from the inside of my left foot. This gives me more of a boring flight that also rolls 10 to 20 yards after landing.
Re: How high do you tee up the ball for your driver?
As high as I can without feeling that I will pass underneath. I also like to hover the driver. I enjoy the sense of hitting up at the ball with driver.
Re: How high do you tee up the ball for your driver?
I tee the ball with the ball no more than 1/3 of its diameter above the clubface. I will at times even tee it lower when I'm playing on a windy day. I can't tee it too low... I can hit my driver off the deck, so even teed up 1 inch is enough for me. I always hover the driver, never ground it.

Thanks everyone. I was hitting my driver pretty good after such a long period of hitting bad slices. When I made contact, I was at least just in the shorter rough.
Re: How high do you tee up the ball for your driver?
I normally use a 3-1/4 inch tee and just stick it in the ground so it will not fall over. This leaves the equator of the ball a little over the top of my driver. But if I'm playing well, and want the most distance I can get, I use a 4 inch tee, tee it way up there, and make a nice up swing at the ball. This increases the launch angle and helps reduce backspin, for more carry and more roll. There is a definite chance of a SKY ball this way, which is why I only do this IF I'm hitting my driver well. It's a bit scary to tee the ball this high, but if you make a good swing and swing UP at the ball, it sure goes farther. And I hover my driver, never set it on the ground.
Re: How high do you tee up the ball for your driver?
I tee the ball so it's equator is level with the top of the crown with my 400 cc driver. Higher for a higher ball and lower with a level swing to hit a low draw.
The big factor that makes golfers hesitant on teeing the ball as high as they should, like OnePutt said is the idiot mark factor. If you're applying an ascending angle of attack on the ball, sky balls can be totally eliminated, even if the ball is significantly above the center of the face. I'd suggest ingraining the correct angle of attack and then work on teeing the ball as high as possible to achieve the "high launch, low spin" conditions that maximize distance.

I try to hit it with the club face approaching it near the bottom of the swing (U shaped bottom). I should be hitting it as the head is rising ?
Re: How high do you tee up the ball for your driver?
I have been experimenting with my set up in 3 ways.
Swinging with the U shaped swing and hitting it at the bottom of the arc
1 Ground the club and set the tee height with the equator just above the center of the face
2 Hover the club but still center it
3 Swinging with the U shaped swing, grounding the ball, with the equator level to the crown but hitting it on the upswing. On set up the club is about 3 cm to right of the tee.
I am finding 1 and 3 to be more beneficial to me to alleviate 'tension' and to have fewer variables in the swing path/plane.
