I know this may sound basic but I was watching (from the den) a golfer getting out of his cart with the club already gripped and he addressed the ball.
I actually set the club down on the ground, align the face, and 'add my hands to the club', as I set up my stance.
When do you set up your grip or when do you grip your club?
A Before you address the ball
B As you are addressing the ball
C Other
Like Merlin, and for the same reason. I have my hand(s) on the club at setup / address, but actually gripping the club is just about the last thing I do before I hit.
Maybe it's just me, but if I walked from the cart to my ball with my club already gripped in my hand, I would probably be gripping it too tightly or the wrong way. I can't imagine that would work.
I am left handed, so I walk into the ball with left foot, while aligning the face to the target, then bring in my right foot and waggle a bit to get comfortable.
After I teed up the ball and am standing behind the ball looking at the target trying to decide what I want the ball flight to be. When I choose my ballfight, then I adjust the club in my hands to match the ball flight I want by just turning the clubface in my hands.
Here's my setup routine video that explains it all.
I grip the club as I'm stepping up to my ball. Usually I'll have my club in my left hand while I'm standing behind the ball, and as I take the step to my ball I'll put my right hand on the club almost as the same time my right foot starts to get set. Once in a while I'll slightly adjust, but most of the times that is what works for me.
I take me club out of my cart then when i get to the ball i get in my grip and then put my feet together at the ball and then spread them to the desired length apart for different clubs and lies
