Oh please! The pros only do that so they can have an excuse why they miss the green or leave a 50 foot putt. Very few pros hit a dead straight shot and if a person hits a fade or a draw then a sidewind will effect it more depending on the amount of the wind because they are hitting some sidespin. Now if you wished we could discuss whether or not a draw or fade is considered a well struct shot or what a golfer has adapted their game to playing. The clarification I believe is in hitting a solit shot with no side spin whatsoever. I stand by it not effecting the balls flight. Now if someone wants to show test results using a controlled hitting machine in those conditions I would gladly look at the data and comment. I'm not going to split hairs with anyone trying to get picky about a few feet or a few yards when I don't know one ameteur or pro that can put it within a three yard circle on more than a rare basis. Not really trying to be contrary here but splitting hairs was not what I presumed this discussion was about.

I was hoping that you would give the appropriate emphasis to my smiley on that previous post the winky one ). It was intended to be quite tongue in cheek.... I thought was mostly agreeing with you...

Sorry, I guess I'm just used to some of the posters in other threads not using logic. My apologies and I will try to look at the context for the way it is intended in its' entirety. Thanks for waking me up.

Re: Advice about Crosswinds

I just joined and I was going thru some older threads and I would advise as follows: If there is a crosswind there is really no benefit from the wind if you hit a straight shot. In fact the wind will push the shot right or left depending on the direction it is blowing and will normally cause a loss of distance equivalent to about 1/2 to a full club length as an average rule of thumb from my experience. Also, from experience I would say that if you have a tail wind you could probably use one more lofted club than normally played and utilize the winds benefits if you can hit that straight shot and vice versa if the wind is against you. Depending on the severity of the wind gusts, it could be an adjustment of up to three clubs or more depending on how hard it is blowing against you.

Regarding your second question, I would say a one club adjustment (stronger) should be made for cold and winter conditions. The ball will not compress as well, the air is heavier plus the fairways are normally soft and muddy from the damp conditions; frost, dew, and other precipitation.
