I've been working on trying to hit the ball before the turf lately without much sucess. More times than not, the divot starts just in front of my right foot. The only time I got the divot to start at the center of my stance was leaving my weight on my left side throughout the swing. (But I'm not going to commit to that.) Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks, Paul.
Turn back and turn through...don' tstart to turn your body on the downswing until your right elbow comes back into your body, pop that left hip (for rightys) at the target at the start of the downswing, and just practice...
Chipping and half swings will ingrain the ablility to hit a spot on the ground...start with that...
Try a change in feelings. Rather than concentrating on where the head of the club should be hitting -- and consequently concentrating on controlling the head, try concentrating on feeling the position of the hands at impact. Namely, try concentrating on getting the hands ahead of the ball at impact. Learn to trust that the club will come around and impact the ball. With the hands ahead of the ball, your swing bottom will almost have to move to the ball or in front of the ball. Bascially, do not think about the club, think about your hands. Like b-n-r said, start with chips, heck you can even start with putts. In every case, the goal is to feel the position of the hands ahead of the ball. Try that and see if that doesn't help some.

You are probably onto something with that. How about a couple of range sessions where you try to 'morph' that swing into a more conventional swing, while trying to keep hitting the ball first? You might learn something.
Guys, I cheated.....I got a lesson. Turns out I was casting. My pro had me work on maintaining the angle between my forearms and the shaft on the way down. I'm hardly taking divots at all now, but at least the clubhead isn't coming down an inch behind the ball. Again thanks for the advice.
The student has become the teacher! Sorry to intrude on the thread, but after reading it, I actually got a free lesson (I experienced some of the same problems!). Thanks for sharing!
