Swing help needed

Here is my swing from 2 angles.

I see the OTT move and I am working on coming down into the slot.

Can you see anything else I need to be working on?

My Video on SwingAcademy

Thanks.

Thumbs up Re: Swing help needed

I think the video is pretty cool. I seem to detect the club going back to the outside on the takeaway with a little bit of overcompensation to the inside after you pass hip high. Perhaps. you are also trying to take it back a little further than your flexibility dictates; hence, your head moves up at the top of it and it travels downward quite a bit as you transition to the downswing. Since the club was traveling to the inside it encourages the over-the-top move. Incidentally, some very good golfers go down after the ball, Tiger and Tom Lehman to name a couple. They just don't lift their heads on the back swing. Try practicing at 60% and taking the club straight back on the target line and letting it come naturally to the inside, the rest will correct themselves. You are almost there!

Re: Swing help needed

What I see here is a closed club face at hip-high in the takeaway. Also, I see your right elbow separating from the right lat - almost a chicken-wing move, but not quite. One other thing I notice is that you get pretty loaded onto your right leg in the backswing. So my advice would be to:
  • stay connected - one-piece takeaway with the elbows in
  • square the club face - easier to do when the right elbow doesn't separate
  • brace against the right leg instead of balancing on it at the top of the backswing

It's easier to stay connected and square if you take the club away "one-piece" and turn from from the target with the shoulders, keeping the hands "in front" of you as opposed to dragging the arms across the chest. Imo a proper swing is not so much about using the arms and more about using the shoulders resulting in a more core-driven swing...the arms and hands are your connection to the club, that's all. They must stay relaxed, yet firm - not like noodles - and driven with the shoulders, hips and legs - the big muscles. Bracing against the right leg will reduce sway and lateral shift and promote a pivot. Hope this helps...just one man's un-professional internet opinion.

Re: Swing help needed

I believe you set up is the main issue. Your arms are to far apart at address which causes your right elbow to fly out, forcing a lift on your backswing verses a rotation of the upper body. That is why you club is closed at position one when the toe should be straight up."position 1 is when the club is parallel to the ground for the first time" The steep back swing forces you to only come over the top because you never put the club on plane and causes the chicken wing at address. Your swing can be fixed pretty easer as you the start of a nice move on the down swing.

I would do the David Leadbetter drill and put a small ball or balloon between your elbows and make sure you open the club face on the backswing so the toe is up at position 1.

Once you hit enough balls to get you backs wing on plane than step two would be to discuss the transition down. But at this time it will not make an difference until you address the back swing.

My 2 cents. Just to let you know I am a 1 handicap who is a range rat living in South Florida playing golf 4 times a week all year round.........i work with a lot of golfers so i am pretty good on picking up on what needs to be addressed first............good luck.......rick dimarzio

Re: Swing help needed

I would like to see a more complete finish, weight on the left leg, right foot resting on its toes, nice balance. A finish that you can comfortably hold for 5 seconds. Practice this 5 times without hitting a ball. Then hit a ball. You will have it in your muscle memory in no time! Also, your swing looks a bit stiff, and tentative. Be sure to be loose before you take the club back.

Re: Swing help needed

your club head looks to be too far forward. try a larger angle in your wrists in the follow thru.
