Help! major help needed

I am a fairly consistent high 70s player. The last 3 rounds, I have developed a semi-shank. It doesn't seem like a full shank coming off of the hosel, but it has shank like characteristics, starting right and going right, feeling like a glancing blow. I seem to be doing it more with my short irons, especially be PW and SW.

What the heck am I doing? Anybody got any swing tips to prevent this? It is starting to make me fully disgusted at golf and give up the game.

Please help.

Are you letting your weight shift back? Keep your weight forward on the short irons.
Is your short iron swing becoming too armsy?
Check your wrists to see if your are releasing too soon.
Are you crowding the ball?
Is your posture good?

Just a few thoughts.
Good Luck

Re: Help! major help needed

The short iron shank has happenned to me several times over the years. I'm a 67 year old 2 handicapper with a lot of tournament experience. To get back on track, I go to the range with a couple of buckets and start hitting easy 8 irons while consciously not breaking my wrists. I don't tense my forearms or wrists, just try to swing "softly" while keeping my arms straight from elbow to knuckle. Note that this is not a stiff arm swing; the elbows do bend a bit naturally. After a few dozen shots with the 8iron, I switch to another club and hit a dozen. Then move on until I'm satisified all the clubs are usable again. This helps restore my confidence and taking it easy lets me monitor other moving parts of my swing. It rarely takes more than one session on the range. Hope it helps you.

If it is not a shank, but simply leaving the clubface open, you may be decelerating.

Even the shortest shot must have some acceleration. You must also keep the extension firm and rotate the clubhead through impact just like a long shot.

i actually have the same problem quite regularly. for me i just come up out of the shot, catch it thin, and under rotate my wrist and hit a screaming wormburner slice thing. its pretty gross. all i do to avoid is is stay down, drive through the ball and try to finish with the club up the target line after impact. simple fix
