problem swing question

Had a horrible practice session at the range today.
80-85 percent of my shots were going right -way right. I'm not talking about a slice either.
I was taking my swing and even when i made decent contact the ball it was going maybe 30+yards to the right.
The longer the club the farther right it went.
I believe my grip and stance are okay .
Is their something i can do to try and work this out.?
More lessons aren't in the budget right now so i'm going to hope someone can give me a pointer or two and i am going to try an look at some instuctional videos on youtube.

Re: problem swing question

Several things you could check by yourself or with a friend.
(1) your set up, grip, posture and especially the alignment.
(2) when you hit irons, try to imagine there is another golf ball in front of your target golf ball and try to hit through both the golf balls ( the real one and the imaginary one )
, this will promote going through the ball.
(3) relax your right hand ( for a righty ) not to grip it too tight but make sure both hands are in unisom working together , this is the most common fault by beginner golfers. A major cause of lost of power and coming over the top.
(4) first few warm up shot, never think of distance, concentrate on direction and ball flight.

After looking at some videos(not of me just instructional videos) it seems like my problem is that when i make contact with the ball the club face is open.
So at least i kind of know what i'm doing wrong just need to correct it.
Along with your tips and a couple things i remember from some lessons i had i now have somewhat of a plan.

Re: problem swing question

when you hit through the golf ball, remember to take a "shallow" divot.

Re: problem swing question

Much better today. Hit the 9iron,7iron and 5iron fairly decent. Instead of 85-90% of the balls going way right i would say today it was only about 15% or so.
Did horrible when i brought out the 21deg hybrid though but if i can develop a decent swing with the irons hopefully the longer clubs will come around in the future.

Re: problem swing question

The clubface is open, and the clubhead is approaching from the inside of the ball.

Most likely you just have the ball too far back in your stance.
