At the risk of embarrassment.......need tips on my swing

Well until i took video of my swing i had no idea how bad it looked. The vid is just me swinging in the backyard, no ball.

Some things i know i need to work on are grip, posture, takeaway, head movement. My posture has always been bad, i'm a sloucher but i've been trying my best even day to day to not slouch so much. Do i have a reverse pivot or improper weight shift??? Looks like i'm a little too quick at the top too.

I won't be able to take lessons until summertime but if there are any pointers ya'll could give me so i can start working on some things.

well idk what to say to you. because all golfers have different swings that work for them. one thing i would say is your wrist hinges/turns way too fast. you gotta slowly take it back, almost as if you are pushing your club back with your left shoulder. and keep your wrists straight to the point in your backswing where you can't keep it straight anymore. also tilt your shoulder to the right, so you can get behind the ball. this could also help with head movement. again this is my swing method, i'm no golf guru. still learning but that's what my teacher taught me.

cj: You are a bit too hard on yourself: After reading your post I was expecting much worse!

I have a comment on your setup: I think it would help you if you set up with some spine-tilt (right shoulder lower than left shoulder), see picture:

hey thanks, for the tips guys!

yea, the wrist hinge or turn thingy, i never noticed....... What if i used a drill like placing a tee a couple inches behind a ball and practiced bringing the clubhead over that tee on my takeaway?

The only thing I really noticed that was bad was your weight is more out on your toes because you are leaning towards the balls position. You want to feel the weight is balanced over the balls of the feet and your arms should be hanging straight down from the shoulders. You are leaning forward and have the club close to touching your body and it is causing you to be a little steep on the take away and your accorss the line with the club at the top. As far as the swing movement itself you look pretty much in balance through the swing and finish in a good position. I think a pro would be able to have you swinging great in no time. You do have a little quick wrist set at the beginning but all of us are slightly different and I don't think there is any definite way a person has to do it as long as the impact position gets the job done. The setup balance issue should IMHO be addressed though to make your swing repetitive. Not a golf pro but for the mostpart you shouldn't feel embarrassed because the swing itself looks pretty good and athletic.

thanks Darrell.....my balance on my feet is something i continue to struggle with i don't know if its because i'm flat footed or what.

I've been doing alot of core, and stretching excercises from mytpi and that has helped me tremendously. But i need to find some excersises to help out w/ my balance

That is what I spotted
Move your hands outwards so you have room to swing.

Perhaps one of the best I've seen is placing the feet together and swinging easy. If your balance is off it will cause you to feel like you're falling off to one side and you won't be able to remain with your feet stationary. This might help with the lean forward. One you find you can swing this way then take up that stance then just sread the feet to a comfortable distance and try your normal swing. You might also want to video that repeatedly to see if you change when you go back to your normal swing.

hey thanks.....i've actually been practicing that and it is helping bit by bit.

i've adjusted my setup a bit based on what everyone else has mentioned, not leaning so much, weight even on my feet, and arms not so close to my body. Feels a little akward, but looking at my setup in the mirror, it makes more sense. I had a chance to hit a couple of balls on the range of course some bad shots to start off with, but after a while i got used to it. It seems like i'm hitting the ball much further, could be a fluke. will go out again today to get some more practice in....... :)

Keep us updated to see how it continues to go. Always remember that any change can feel funny til it is ingrained but it should make your swing better for the long run. Distance might improve somewhat because of the balance issue and turning quicker from the core.
