New swing thoughts has completely messed up swing!

Just to say it , I am still a newbie golfer. Capable of shooting little over bogey golf at my best and doublebogey golf++ at the worst.

My past problems where a heavy PULL, and I mean real heavy, like 30 yards OR a slice.

I saw a pro he gave me some insight and said I had to turn more and stop me from coming over the top. He said he was dead on sure that not turning enough made my both pull the ball.

I have to say, I think my body is confused. I think the pull is a result of slicing the ball ALOT in my first 2 months or so as a golfer. Releasing with the upper body to hard can cause a pull right?

But anyway, Ive had so many schools of thought and has wound up all confused and my body don`t simple now what to do. Ive seen tips from one plane swing, my local pro and a fellow named Shawn Clement and my head is spinning out:P.

I have got some messages from my buddies that say that my swing looks awesome but I have to say the results are not. Also my knees have started to hurt a bit and Im not sure weather I should play my front foot flat or not...

Anyone who has an idea of what my problems are?
If I can get a camera I will try to record my swing so people can see what Im doing.

Sounds to me that you are just over-swinging to the extreme. The force of a shoulder dominated transition to the downswing might be part of your problem. This would cause you to come over the top and certainly increase the stress on your knees.

Devote several practice sessions to working solely on balance in your swing at 60 to 70% percent of your swing speed. Most important for balance is "the feel of the body turning in response to the swinging of the club not the turning body slinging the club".

I will almost guarantee that affecting this change will improve the direction of your ball striking and make those knees feel a lot better in the bargain.

Re: New swing thoughts has completely messed up swing!

I hope and think your right. I actually viewed my top of the backswing a month ago and I had just as much hip turn as shoulder turn

approx 65 degrees or so with both. That can NOT be good for the knees? At one poin`t I almost couldn`t walk because of the strain I put on my legs/knees. Especially the forward leg.

And I think you struck bullseye. You said start swinging the club with your arms and let the body follow. I have tried to start the swing with turn and increasing the turn throughout the backswing.

I have been stuck on my back foot aswell, atleast it hasn`t felt like I could finish..

Thanks A lot, I will try that out :)

The quick and easy fix is to say you need to keep your tilt. Angle your spine away from the target during impact.

The longer fix is to teach yourself to finish properly which includes a right shoulder that stays lower than your left shoulder and with your weight more toward the toe of your front foot.

Re: New swing thoughts has completely messed up swing!

Thanks Ringer.

As a beginner I slided away from the target in the backswing, tried to correct it and ended up sliding towards the target in the backswing.. Neither work as you might have guessed and now Im trying to find that one in between.

My goal should be: Find the turn that makes it easy to finish on my front foot and letting that arm release under my sholuder staying behind the ball, agree?

Re: New swing thoughts has completely messed up swing!

Current results point in the direction of what Bob recommended.

I tried something knew today. In the backswing I just gave myself enough momentum and smoothness to complete my shoulder turn. How did I know it was complete? Well, I have calcium deposits in my lead shoulder and heard a light crack 0,5 seconds before my shoulder turn was complete.

After that I just released my swing. Looked much more on plane and I finally made straight shots with my 3 wood. That was without thinkg about release.

Quite logical really, if you don`t complete your shoulder turn it gets that much difficult to get that shoulder on the inside and give the proper plane.

Also turning to fast made me shift, lose my spine angle and overswing. A slower turn until the "crack" seemed to smothen out my swing.

Still have to work on the finish position though (like ringer said) but I finished and turned through more naturally now. I will try it again tomorrow and let you guys know how its working out :D

No shift= Easier to finish. I think its that simple (unless you shift back ofcourse)

Re: New swing thoughts has completely messed up swing!

Hi again.

Still struggling.

But I think Ringer was on to something. Everytime I finish solid (feel like a pro ) the ball goes straight.

But I actually think the finish is related to an inconsistent takeaway so ill work with those and keep you posted :)

(I need to upload a video because Im totally confused :D)
