not a slice, but a push

i've encountered a problem with my driver swing. like the title says, i'm starting to push the ball 15-20 yards right. i've tried different ball positions when teeing up but that didn't seem to work. so, any advice to correct this? also what causes a push?

i forgot to add that its pushing when 'm really having a go at the ball. when i slow the tempo down its straight with a very small fade.

Re: not a slice, but a push

Your hips are outracing the shoulders and arms leaving the face just a touch open. When you go for it you have to be able to speed up the tempo from bottom to top. I was trying to go hard today and when I didn't get the arms and wrists in tempo with the lower body I had high fades and a couple of slices and I very seldom slice a ball anymore.

I'm not a pro but you might want to strengthen your grip a knuckle or two.

Re: not a slice, but a push

thanks for the suggestions. my grip is already a strong grip with my driver and longer clubs.
coralpro, it kinda wierd, but it kinda feels like my shoulders are outracing my lower body. it just a feeling though. could that also cause a right push shot?

Not normally because the face squares before the body gets to where it needs to be. Generally arms leading either causing slices from over the top or pulls, draws and hooks again depending on swing path. It is generally much easier to see videos from down the line and to the front to know what ones swing mechanics are like. Best tip I could give is just to remember the balls flight tells you the swing path and the face position. Looking at videos if you can will show you what you might be doing to cause it. Many times a push can just be caused by getting stuck but by the way you describe it it sounds like that may not be the case. Sometimes dropping the right shoulder too low can also cause the stick preventing the body from squaring at impact. If it is a true push then your swing is inside out with the face ligned the way the swing path is. You have to figure what is causing you to swing and aim that direction.

Re: not a slice, but a push

keep a slow tempo it sounds like you have a outside in swing path when you try to swing hard your body wants to swing even more drastic along this swingpath and spins the ball off the face to the right even more than it does, I would be able to help you a bit more if I could see a video of your swing

Almost makes me think he is a little flat on the swing and if he drops the right shoulder too much he may be getting stuck some and pushing it right. I would almost think it has to be an in to out swing path and he is just not getting the lower body turned enough to bring it on line and come around. Like you said though without video one can only guess. Not being a teacher I can only go with things that I've encountered working on my swing.
