Closed Clubface at Impact

Hey. I currently am having an issue with a fairly consistent pull hook with my irons and wedges only. My divots are straight at the target, so it is not a swing path issue. I am just looking for tips or drills to help have a square clubface at imact with my irons and wedges so i can stop wasting good drives.

Thanks.

try keeping your head down usually when I pull my head up my arms and wrist dont release properly and I hit a little hook if that doesent work focus on trying to get your hips thru the shot before your arms and check to make sure your soleing your club properly I would be able to help you a little more if you have a video of your swing

I had the same problem. I started using a neutral grip (over a strong grip) with shorter and mid range irons.

Actually, the only thing with a strong grip is the driver.

Use a weaker grip, only 1.2 knuckles on left hand showing at address. Be sure your right elbow is close to your right body side during the downswing.

Be VERY careful if you are considering weakening your grip, you don't want to fix a hook problem by causing a slice issue.

My suggestion is to check your exit. I hit a draw and when I get a case of the hooks it always means I am rolling my top hand over through impact thus closing the face. The cure for me is to practice a controlled exit on about 80% shots with short irons.

If you are pulling you are coming over the top...if your divots are straight at the target then you might take a look at weakening first your right hand and then your left if issues still persist...also take a look at your ball position...too close or too far from the body do funny things to the short irons...

I wouldn't try to do anything that alters your swing like rolling manipulations, etc...just swing freely, notice the trends and adjust accordingly...the only way to be consistent...

Hey Pubrat13, what do you mean by a controlled exit. What you were saying sounds exactly like my situation. I hit a draw but will hit the occasional hook. When i hit the hook it does feel like I am releasing too much.

Thanks
