Re: Iron shots

Its hard to do both. I hit the ball really high with any club, mainly because I play the ball a little further forward in my stance than what is "normal". To get more spin you have to hit down on the ball, which requires the ball to be further back in the stance. I've found it easier for me to rely on trajectory than spin to stop the ball on the green. A hard distance ball will only spin so much, regardless of how well its struck, but if it comes into the green from high enough, with a sharp angle of decent, it will "hop and stop" My short iron shots tend to stay within 4 inches of the ball mark, and my long irons usually stop within 2 feet.

The down side to hitting the ball high comes when the wind is really whipping.

Re: Iron shots

I agree with Zakthan's method and prefer the high drop-and-stop type of shot, even in the wind. Spin and height are almost a "pick (a) OR (b)" situation, and I think height is easier to control. The pros do either at will, but that's why they aren't sitting home watching us on the week end.

Re: Iron shots

Im the same with mizuno..I tend to play the ball further ahead normally and hit it high with just about everything..

That being said..

I can take my pw and play it back and hit a knock down shot and pretty much make it do what i want..As far as spin i mean..

The main thing i focus on is hiting the little ball(golf ball)before the big ball(earth)..lol..The crisper and more "down" you hit on the ball..the more spin you'll get..
