Re: Iron shots
Its hard to do both. I hit the ball really high with any club, mainly because I play the ball a little further forward in my stance than what is "normal". To get more spin you have to hit down on the ball, which requires the ball to be further back in the stance. I've found it easier for me to rely on trajectory than spin to stop the ball on the green. A hard distance ball will only spin so much, regardless of how well its struck, but if it comes into the green from high enough, with a sharp angle of decent, it will "hop and stop" My short iron shots tend to stay within 4 inches of the ball mark, and my long irons usually stop within 2 feet.
The down side to hitting the ball high comes when the wind is really whipping.
