Not Taking a Divot

Hey guys. I have recently switch to Titleist DCI 990 irons, stiff flex. I now am having trouble catching it clean with a nice decending blow, resulting in never taking a divot. I hit the ball alright with the occasional hook however. My yardages are all ******* up now because i seem to be hitting every club about 10 yards shorter than with my previous clubs which were some no name clubs, chicago i think they were. Your help would be appreciated

Thanks.

Re: Not Taking a Divot

I can't tell without looking at your swing, but try positioning the ball slighty closer to your body...this could cure both ills...

Have you checked the shaft lengths, lie angles etc. of the old clubs for comparison to the new? Did you have stiff shafts before? Obviosly you are getting less compression on the ball and therefore distance is suffering a bit. Why did you decide to get stiff shafts? If you are strong hitter with good clubhead speed you may be able to get the benefit of the stiffer shaft but I don't know your swing. Those stiff shafts may be robbing you of some distance if you can't handle them. As for divot, it depends on your swing. Jack Nicklaus took little or no divots.

Re: Not Taking a Divot

what he said - sounds like the shafts are to hard for your swing cosing the lose of yardage. I was using a set of 990's stock and found the lie angles way to steep for me and had them adjusted - made a word of differnce on them.
