tips for hitting the dreaded shank.

ive been hitting alot of balls on the heel, and sometimes shanking it.

its quite embarassing to do it in front of your buddies, especially when you were hitting everything perfect last week.

its also quite frustrating. Ive hit a bucket of balls after it started and i ended up spiking my hat.

so help me out guys..

thanks!

My guess is your crowding the shot. Try standing further away from the ball. Without seeing your swing that would be my thought. This way you won't swing as steep and should get the club more in the middle.

Re: tips for hitting the dreaded shank.

I had the same problem early on this year, and my problem was standing too close to the ball. It took a few rounds for it to feel natural once again, but it corrected the problem.

Your swingplane is probably too flat for the ball position. You can adapt to it by standing farther away from the ball, or you can swing more upright. You can work on your swingplane by doing the exercises at longgolf.com

Re: tips for hitting the dreaded shank.

I can suffer from this problem. Coaches have told me that the bottom line is you are either keeping your face open or leaning out over your toes. Both of these bring hosel to ball first. Make a conscious effort to keep hosel going away from ball as clubhead comes through.
