Re: major spin

Don't hit it so far and good luck!!!

Seriously though, solid clean contact with good fairway conditions, good clubhead speed and recepetive fast and dry conditions will spin it back, as will playing it a little forward with the face slightly open and gettign that clean ball first contact, good intital wrist cock and a powerful release...

But it is one of those things that if you have to ask you don't need to know...the better you get the more you will spin the ball as your mechanics improve along with your swingspeed and striking accuracy...your new concern will be minimizing and controlling the spin...

I meant what I said serioulsy though...don't hit the ball as far and forget about spin for now...

Re: major spin

You want to zip the ball back like its on a string like the pros do. Everyone wants to pull off cool shots when they are 12, but here's the reality of it.

If you're hitting your sand wedge 45 yards, you're not generating enough clubhead speed to impart enough spin on the ball to spin it back. However, to maximize what spin you can generate, start off by hitting the ball clean like bump said. An open face will add loft and backspin.

Playing the ball up in your stance will make the ball fly higher and land softer, but in reality, the ball will be spinning less when it hits the green because the longer the ball is in the air, the more time it has to slow down (speed of rotation).

Re: major spin

Work on shots with a backswing at 9, 11 and full. That is having your arms go to parallel for a 9 o'clock backswing and then complete your swing. Do this with you SW to your 7 iron and you will know how far each will go. The lower loft with a 9 o'clock swing can be more accurate than a higher loft (SW for instance) with a full swing or 3/4 swing. Practice landing a little short and rolling to the pin until your swing speed picks up.
Good luck.
