A little experiement on my 3 wood, any thoughts?

I'm going to cut my 3 wood down. The old 3 wood prestige that doesn't match up with my other clubs that are now wishon style.

I noticed the length difference between my 4 iron and 3 hybrid was approx 2 cm, or 0,78 inches.

The difference between my 3 hybrid and 3 wood was 8-9 centimeters, or almost 3,6 inches.

My thought/theory is. If one should learn oneself to be repetitive regarding swing tempo, posture et cetera, I don't see the advantage of having that long shafts on 3-wood and Driver compared to the difference between the irons/hybrids.

If you have only one wedge in your bag you can of course match the difference better with all sorts of woods in between but I don't.

Therefore I'm going to cut my 3-wood down so the difference between the 3 hybrid and 3 wood will only be about 1 inch, instead of 3,5 inches.

Its a radical change I know, but my 3 wood isn't worth much, it has not been used with caution to put it nicely and I don't hit it very well and it feels akward to swing it.

I gripped down that same amount outside and took some practice swings.. It felt really good. Feel of the club and balance was much better.

So what do you think? I will obiviously loose distance but maybe not as much as one should think because I think I will hit the sweetspot alot more often with a shortened club.

Re: A little experiement on my 3 wood, any thoughts?

My three woods are 42.25 and 42 inches...they go every bit as far as they used to if not farther, and are more accurate...same for my hybrids which I shaved two inches off each when I reshafted to steel...am able to take a better bite out of the ball and distance was not comprimsed and accuracy gained (they are now the lenght of a three and four iron shaft respectively rather than fw shaft lenghts)...
