Problem with swing

Was wondering if any one had any advice for me on how to swing inside out. I seem to have a problem with the driver that i can't get the swing path inside out. It seems the harder i try i can't get the path to fall into place. Does any know of any trainer that will help groove this swing flaw. I have seen tons of trainers but don't know which one to buy. Everyone seems to have a fix but as most know only some of them work. If anyone else has had this problem and fixed it maybe you can give me some help.

Re: Problem with swing

I prefer staying on plane to inside out.

It is dangerous, in my view, to attempt to consciously manipulate swing path because invariably you will begin swinging with the hands and arms instead of the powerful large muscles of the core. As an example, when I hear "take the club away close to the ground", the implication is to do something with the arms to make the club stay down at the initiation of the swing, which will likely cause disconnect in the shoulders, resulting in an out/in downswing path. I labored under that misconception for years. To answer your question specifically, I know of no trainers, but this tried and true drill is the best way I know to develop the takeaway feel: Assume your setup position with the driver. Slide the club toward your body so the butt of the club is resting on your sternum, then re-grip at whatever point your hands reach on the shaft. Do some take away moves with the club resting against the sternum in this fashion. You wont be able to swing back very far, but it will define the take away feel clearly for you, which will be on plane. Maintain that feel of the upper torso/hands/arms all working as one unit., which keeps the swing radius consistant, and the club will come back properly from the inside. I can post a picture if the drill is not clear.

Re: Problem with swing

I've also been struggling with this, but lately 2 things have been helping. First thing has a direct effect on the downswing and that's the backswing. Make sure when you take the club away you a) trace a line that comes from directly behind the ball slightly to the inside. A drill for this would be take another ball and place it behind the club you are swinging. As you take your club away the ball should move back and inside the target line. When your club is parallel to the ground the shaft should be over your toe line. b) make a good shoulder turn. I've become convinced that most people that shoot high numbers (especially slicers) have poor shoulder turn. I've been concentrating on two things with regard to the shoulder turn - get my left (front) shoulder over my right foot (if you don't get it there your backswing isn't complete on a full shot), and getting my right butt cheek to turn to the target. It's not so much about getting the hips turned as getting the shoulders turned. From there the club should stay inside and swing out and through, as long as you begin the downswing from the ground up. My other thought is to try and brush my right pocket with my hands/arms on the downswing. That really promotes an inside out path and when I overdo it, snap hooks are the order of the day.

Re: Problem with swing

Take the club straight back from the ball...on the downswing shift your left hip to the target, keep your head behind the ball, let the right elbow come down to the right hip and swing through the ball keeping the right shoulder back, imagining you are shattering a pane of glass with the toe of your club at impact...you'll be turning it over like a champ...
