hooking driver

I have been fighting a hook with my driver. It is a Callaway X460 not the tour model. I know that it has a closed face (can't remember I thinks its 1 or 2 degrees), could this be the reason or is it my swing. If it is being caused by the closed club face can a golf shop bend it back to neutral. One other thing not on this subject is if I have a golf shop work on my club does a premium shaft make a big differance. If so I was thinking of upgrading. What shaft would you recommend looking for a good in between with distance and accuracy and probably a medium ball flight. Thanks
If I need to post the question about the shaft onto a differant thread let me know and I will do that

Re: hooking driver

Hard to answer without more info. Driver only? If so, could be equipment or maybe just trying to "overswing" it? Describe ball flight. Starting straight and hooking? Right or left and hooking?
As an additional thought, and not trying to be sarcastic, "fighting" a hook may be a mindset which aggrevates the problem and cause frustration. To get the mind flowing in a more positive direction, it's better to think of working to make it go straight.
Others can answer the equipment questions better than I.

Re: hooking driver

Try swinging by really leading with hip turn...I was struggling with this for the last 6 weeks, and as it turned out, I was getting lazy in the hip department, hanging back and turning over too hard thru impact...get that weight forward hips leading the way and see how that works out...

Re: hooking driver

...the club could be too closed for you, but I'd learn to slice the ball then work my way back to straight before patching the problem with equipment...I will bet you that a pro that plays an open face driver can still work it both ways...learn to do that with the club you have and then see about bending for your prefered shot shape...equipment modifications are for tweaking something you want to do better and more easily rather than for something you can't do if that makes sense, assuming it isn't a dramatically biased game improvement type club...
