Re: Help with using woods

you will most likely get more distance just because of the loft and size of the clubhead, however I do not know your personal yardages.

some tips i try to remember is imagining standing on thin ice, the entire tee box is thin ice. If you try to hit down into the ball too much you will break the ice. However, sweeping the ball off the tee and just grazing the ice will not break it. This also helps your posture!

Will I definitely get more distance teeing off with a wood instead of an iron?
If it keeps you in play, I see no reason to change. Woods have lower lofts that theoretically go farther if you make contact. If you hit it fat, it doesn't matter what club you used since the majority of the energy is lost into the planet with a fraction of the energy transferred into the ball. Your shafts need to be appropriate for your swing speed.

However, if you are adventurous, then you need to hit longer clubs. Work towards teeing off with hybrids (3-6 hybrids), if you have them. Do the same with fairway woods (it could be a 9, 7, 5, 4, 3, whatever wood you have). Use the higher lofted woods (5 or 7) and work on proficiency until you get to the driver.

You won't be able to hit them off of the deck until you can hit them teed up. As you get more proficient, lower the tee until it is just off of the ground. Then work on hitting it off of the ground.

The longer clubs require a sweeping swing and are more forward in the stance, than short irons and wedges.

Get a PGA pro to help with consistent set up to get the fundamentals.
