okay first of all: Distance will come with good fundamentals and technique..that's not bad at all for not playing with a 3 year layoff so don't worry about it.

For the woods..remember that you are sweeping the ball but you must hit down on the ball to make it go up. It will take confidence and remember to maintain a good tempo and balance when hitting them.

Without hitting the weight room and building your actual strength, I would say work on creating as big a shoulder turn going back as you can with minimum hip turn. That's what creates the coil effect which will translate into enormous power for even a smaller or skinnier person. Also, try to maintain your wrist cock for as long as possible on the downswing. That clubhead lag will allow you more energy to apply into impact when you finally do let it go.

I just saw small and skinny Bernhard Langer crank one 315yds...get it out of your head that swing speed equals strength...power for me comes from syncronicity, getting behind the ball, taking time at the top to shift your weight and start down with your hips, soft hands, supple wrists that allow the club to stay cocked, actually increase lag starting down, and release naturally...and the right hand/right knee...drive the knee at the ball hard and whip that right hand through...none of this is going to really help as they are snippets of the complete movement...when you figure it out you can re read this and it will hit you "oh yeah...that's what I'm doing"...but the one thing that I can say that can give you a push in the right direction is that you should widen your stance a touch, swing as smoothly as possible, take your time at the top of the swing, and try to have your backswing speed match your downswing speed...it will feel slow but it will be more than enough...that and you need to make center of the face contact (actually a little high on the face for driver to engage the gear effect)...whatever you do, don't try to hit the ball hard with your arms...it's the last thing that you want to do...

Re: tips for more distance

The key to distance for me is a full shoulder turn with my back facing the target.

Re: tips for more distance

Check to see if you are shifting your weight towards the target side as you swing through your shot. Here is how the weight shift should work: At the top of the back swing, start clearing the left hip out of the way (if you're right handed) then begin shifting towards the left side. You should feel the upper body start to rotate at this point. You want to keep the upper body centered during the swing, do not lunge it forward when the lower body shifts through. When you are at impact, your arms should be fully extended; your upper body should be low and facing the ball, and you should have transferred some weight off the right side. When you are finished the swing, you should have approx. 80-90% of your weight on the bottom of your left foot, and your right foot should be on the tippy toe with your knee pointing towards the target. Please refer to my FREE VIDEO at: nancysgolfworld.com for a demo. Hope this helps.
