If you are keeping your knees flexed and kicked in towards one another, it will feel somewhat restricted from the hips down, but you should still be able to make a free shoulder turn. This is actually a good restriction because it is torque, or having the muscles keyed to return to the ball. Another thought; it is really better to learn with a shorter swing anyway and you may be suprised how powerfully you can strike the ball with a 3/4ish swing if you are leveraged properly.
