Question Driving Form Standards

Ok, so you look at John Daly who LAUNCHES the ball and he points the head at the ground, you look at Tiger who has a "textbook" swing (parallel to the grass and shoulders at 90*) and he has had trouble of the drive (at least at the Open)...
Daly has his hands above his head, Tiger a little less....when I swing (saw it on video) it doesn't feel right to take my target-side arm back that far...I take mine back just past parrallel to the grass and my club head a little above parallel (I cock my wrists at the top) and with my left arm flexed but not bent, it feels like a whip at follow through.
Now, I'm no pro, but I can keep my woods straight on a line and between 250-300...is there no such thing as a "textbook" driving swing, or could I get more out of my swing if I tried to conform it?
Thoughts?
Mike

Textbook swing? Never heard of it(lol)! My backswing comes just past parallel with the ground(target line) and I carry about 255 with my driver. I use the same "whip" technique, holding my wrist and shaft angle till the last possible second. Sounds like you have a solid game, dont ever worry what your swing looks like unless it gets you into trouble!!-k.doubler

If you hit your woods that straight and that far, as my pappy said, "if it ain't broke son, don't break it" (actually my pappy didn't say that, in fact, i don't even have anyone i call pappy, just sounded right)

sounds like you've got a game others would want. don't mess with the swing because it doesn't look right.....there are no style points in golf.

Since everybody is different, you swing to what your body can do and what you are comfortable with. Like the saying of a butterfly beating his wings...when you change once aspect of you swing, you affect everything else. Remember whent he reverse C swing, below, was the norm? Now those who used it have many a back problem (the picture below is not me).

I agree with the others, if yu can hit your woods that good I would not try to change it. But if you must you can try the old knee snaping tecnique, on you downswing snap you knee, it will make your hips turn faster and you should be able to hit farther.
