Ok I can hit my irons pretty well with the basic swing and hit them pretty consistently but not too long. Now that darn wood swing is just killin me, i try and do the same swing as my irons just so i can hit the ball with no luck, once in awhile i can do the swooping motion and really knock one out there but not consistent at all......i dont even take the woods out of the bag while on the course, just keep ripping that 3 iron out there for my drives on the long par 4's and 5's........
any help with thsi swing would be great....maybe a web site or reading material?

As far as technique (me): I setup the ball just left of center (righty). Try to make contact on the bottom half of the ball. My greatest improvement was usuing a lower profile fw. I use to try to hit it off the deck with an old Cally but the face was just to deep..obviously a mental thing..but anyway..with the lower profile face it gave me greater confidence. FYI: Mine is a McGregor V-Foil cavity 4W
ok that sounds good, maybe i am not putting the ball forward enough in my stance cause i seem to hit the bottom of the ball of them **** high nipples at the range........ok i will try and do what you said and see if it helps any, heck at this point anything is better.....THANKS!!!

OIC, this is off the tee..I thought you were hitting it off the deck (ground).

yeah this is at the range, i dont even take the woods out of the bag at the course unless maybe i find an old ball and tee and just take a shot at it, not for score just for practice.....
heck off the deck with a wood, i cant hit it yet either!!!
darn driver and woods are gonna be the death of me!

The pro I am taking lessons from (along with Ben Hogan in his immortal book on the golf swing) suggest the swing is the same for irons and woods - you just set up farther away with the longer clubs. He also suggests that a 5 iron is set up in the middle of the feet and as you work your way up your clubs towards your woods, the ball moves forward in your stance (so your driver is inside the front foot).

Hope this helps...
hmm..interesting..then if you go 6,7,8,9,pw,etc you would place the ball toward the right of center? BTW when I hit my SW it is def. right of center..but with my other shots it's at CENTER..hmm..interesting
To correct myself (which happens more often than I prefer), the ball is in the middle of the stance for the 9-iron (not the 5-iron) and you work up. You want the ball teed in front (inside the front foot) for the driver so you can catch the ball on the upswing to get "lift off" (if you will).
Again, it is still suppose to be the same swing (as Hogan says, "the golfer only needs to learn one swing")...
According to Hogan, the feet should be shoulder width apart for the 5-iron, narrower for the higher irons (6-wedges) and wider for the lower irons and woods. My instructor has told me (at least at this point) to keep my feet the same width for all swings.
Just some thoughts (after I came home and checked my notes)...

great advice, i will try it and see how it goes, it is funny but a lot of people can not hit there 3 or 4 iron at all or not even well but since i have not been able to hit a driver or fairway wood i have learned to and can hit it pretty well....
i am gonna probably go hit a bucket tonite and try you pros methods, thanks for the heads up!!!
With the woods off the tee, try to get a sense of where you are in relation to the target as you address the ball. Keep this feel/omage in your mind throughout the swing. Keep your centre behind the ball and remain there throughout the swing. Take the club away with your centre and arms together and get the feel of returning to the address position on the way through the ball. Keep the hands relaxed and do not 'hit' it with your hands but only with your centre during the rotation. NOt sure if this helps you but will be willing to explain further if required. Remember it is a swing and not a hit.
