Best ways to practice, What are the best methods that golfers use to improve their g

Hi all,
My name is Brad a recent college grad who loves the game of golf. I worked golf services at Oakland Hills Country Club for several years. It was an amazing job that provided me with experiences that I will never forget. One thing about living in Michigan, is that the golf season is short. During the off-season, my game usually deteriorates which makes it difficult to make big strides towards lowering my handicap. I was wondering what methods other golfers use when practicing. I have created an online survey that asks questions regarding personal practice methods in hopes of identifying how most people practice, and which methods are the most effective. I am planning on posting the results for all to see, so please take a minute to fill it out!
Thanks!!
Brad

Living in New England I can feel your pain about the off season. I spend a good deal of time in the offseason at the range working on my set-up and swing. If there is not much snow I go to a local course which remains open and I work on some short game shots. I also work a good deal on my putting in the basement. The key is to keep this practice fun so you can do it everyday. It does pay off when the warmer weather returns.......

Couldn't get to your link, so here are a few thoughts. When I lived in areas where the climate nixed golf for months on end, I followed a simple workout system during the down time:

1. Basic weight lifting program, M/W/F doing two sets of 15 - 20 reps in bench press, curl, dumbell flys, over head press behind neck, squat and pullups. This took about 20 minutes.

2. Body core workout M - F (Weekdays), working up to 100 reps in bentknee situps and leg raises, and a lot of stretching. This typically took about 40 minutes.

3. Long smooth gentle swings with the driver and the 8 iron on T/Th/S. Do each club 10 minutes.

4. Practice putting from 4, 7 & 10 feet on a smooth rug any 3 days you can. Hit 25 putts from each distance. This should take about 20 minutes.

5. Cardio workout for 30 minutes on any three days of the week.

These last two I'd try to fit in where I could, just making sure I didn't do them on three consecutive days. Two days in a row and the third a few days later worked out well.

This may sound like a lot, but it adds up to 360 minutes, or 6 hours. If you play twice a week during the warm weather, you'll easily exceed this amount of time. Plus, you can vary the time of day or the workouts a bit to keep things fresh. Hope this helps you, it always let me start golfing in the Spring with an edge on the rest of the guys.

I live in the cold as well, so I feel your pain. I spend a lot of time sitting on the couch and eating things that I should not be eating

Unless you are swinging frequently, I find the indoor domed ranges are mostly bad for your swing. I also do not think about golf during the off season. Too much golf thoughts work against me. I like to keep my goals/mind simple.

My goal for this winter is to be physically fit when the spring hits, not too soon, but just in time.
