Angry Slicing off the tee!!

Hello, Im having a real problem coming off the tee, I can say I am hitting my irons and woods good but they might have a slight movement to the right, but coming off the tee is a totally different story!!! When i come off the tee it comes off dead straight, the Slices HARD! Im guessing its becuase of an open club face? Please responed with any things to try or any drills to prevent slicing and a open clube face!! Thanks

Re: Slicing off the tee!!

The face isn't open if the ball is starting straight. Its your swing plane. You can post you swing or just take a look at the recent 'my swing' thread by ringer. Its by far the most common swing flaw that causes a slice. Probably because its the hardest to fix.

Re: Slicing off the tee!!

The clubface is open to it's path, but square to the target line, therefore, it is open while coming from the outside. It's really impossible to suggest a "fix" without knowing more about your swing and thinking.

That is a better explanation. I hate telling people that the club is open to the path though because they usually try to fix this my further shutting the face down relative to the target line.

Re: Slicing off the tee!!

one trick you can try to see if it makes a difference is to put an old glove under your right armpit and a little lower. if you are swinging over the top, than the glove should fall out. if you are keeping your elbow tight into your core, then it should stay put.

also, if you have a video camera, tape yourself, slow it down and see what's going on.

Re: Slicing off the tee!!

I have been slicing, and a more experienced golfer watched and told me I'm going to far back with my backswing. Slow down, relax, he said.
It did help and I'm staying on my fairway. But at a loss of distance. (I like booming...newbie with clubs...).
For what this is worth...

Re: Slicing off the tee!!

Hi Guys,

New to this forum and have played the game of golf on and off since 1972. Never have been a great player, was down to a 9 handicap at one time. Quit playing in 03 and restarted this last summer. Starting over ***** you seem to lose every part of your game.

Saw allatoonagolf11's thread on the infamous slicing problem. I too was a notorious slicer and constantly frustruated with it. Two swing corrections have fixed my slice and am now hitting straight down the fairway 75 to 80% of drives. My issue was mainly swinging outside in, which is the major contributer of the slice. So I addressed this by focusing on swinging from inside to out.

1. Keep that right arm close to the body on the bottom of the downswing. More years ago than I like to think about, my longest, straightest drives resulted in scratching the inside of my right forarm on the rivets of my jeans waistband.

2. Contact of the ball. The driver clubface should make contact with the ball on the lower left quadrant of the ball. Maintain that swingthought, picture hitting the ball there, at first you may feel that the ball will go straight right.

Give that a try. Practice alot, I play 18 hole one weekend and practice 3 to four hours the next. Good facility where I play you can practice all parts of the game.

This has certainly helped me
