Question distance - match irons to hybrids

The contents of my golf bag are in sad need of replacement.
I'm using an Adams Redline 10.5* (offset - I'm old) Driver, a Tight Lies 5 wood, and a mish-mash of irons, from 3 through LW.
I'll get 180-190 yards out of a correctly hit 3-iron, and 150-160 with my 5-iron as examples of my distance.
I'd thought about picking up a matching set of irons, but after reading a lot of posts here, I'm considering use of hybrids instead.
All things being equal, what hybrids would replace the irons - i.e. does a 7 hybrid replace a 7 iron. . . .
on down the line?
Thanks.

Re: distance - match irons to hybrids

The idea is that the hybrid is supposed to replace the iron that it corresponds to, but this is not always the case. Sometimes new converts to hybrids find they hit them better than irons and see significant distance change. Some of the OEM sets that incorporate hybrids into the mix attempt to address that a bit and you receive the added bonus of not paying for an extra iron and replacing it with a hybrid. As always, you will generally be encouraged around GR to go to a big box store or demo day and try various clubs from different manufacturers.
Cheers,
Bob

Re: distance - match irons to hybrids

Hybrids are supposed to give the same distance but higher flight and softer landing to irons they replace. But when it comes to long irons, many people don't hit them solid, so they thought the hybrids give them longer distance. I have more confidence hitting my hybrids, so my 2 hybrid gives 200 yards distance. I don't think I can hit 2 iron 200 yards.

Re: distance - match irons to hybrids

I cut the shafts down of the hybrids to more iron like lengths, then match loft for loft...it isn't an exact science but I get more consistent results from my hybrids this way, allows me to really hit them like irons, and makes figuring out gaps easier as the loft to loft more directly matches when the shafts are similar lengths...

A 19* stock 2 hybrid of nearly any brand will go further for me than a 2 iron hit flush...FWIW...
