Well I have started to hit the ball great again with the exception of my driver. A few weeks ago I was fading or cutting ever shot. I just had a really steep swing. I have corrected this and am now hitting everything with a draw again, which is my shot of choice. Only problem now is I am either duck hooking or hooking the driver really bad...and when I hook it, it probably does not get but 5 foot off of the ground. Has my swing got to flat now or what?

Because you have made some great changes, do this first before changing anything:
1. Swing the driver with the speed and distance of the iron or fairway metal that you are most consistent with. Sometimes because we know the driver will get the ball out farther than the rest we swing it faster, the problem is the diver is longer and needs more time to get through impact so it needs to be swung slower.
2. Also check the ball placement, if you put it too forward you will be making contact after the club has released (club is closed at this point adding too much oversping sending the ball low with a hook)

Well it sounds that since it is so low that it is not to far forward but it could be too far back. When the ball is too far back for the driver SOME people tend to rush through the hitting zone and speed up their hands or even cast at the top.

Hello Shootin4par,
I disagree with you because deronsizemore talks of drawing the ball with other clubs and that would indicate a better ball placement and corrected swing plane.
I feel like my ball placement with the driver is good, but as most everyone knows that has played golf for anything length of time...what feels good most of the time isn't. So ball placement could be a big factor in my duck hooks and low draws. I don't think I'm rushing my swing or swinging to hard. This is the main reason I'm hitting better is because I have in fact slowed my swing down tremendously. There for a while (didn't realize it then, but do now) I was swinging really hard, and getting the club outside and coming in really quick producing that cut shot...I was swinging so hard that everything was out of whack...now that I'm swinging slower I have more tempo to my swing and everything is just better.
Could the duck hooks and low draws be because of to much slower swing then what I'm accustomed to?
Make sure the back elbow is not flying! BTW where is the ball in your stance for your driver?
Diva, he could not have the ball too far forward, otherwise he would not hit it so low!
Be patiente, you have found success with slowing down, pros always will tell each other to trust what you have had success with, you can do the same. Its just a matter of timing and it will come

Hi Shootin4par,
I know what you are saying about the low shot off the back foot and the higher shot of the front but Its also true that the ball off of the front foot will hook and off the back foot will slice or fade. So deronsizemore could play the ball back a bit from where he is playing the driver and this could help him straighten out the drive. The only way to know is if we could see the swing - I am just going by what I hear him saying.
Note: years ago the opposite was taught about ball placement with the higher shots hit off the back because of the downswing and many tour players still do this. Because of this it is important to listen to how the person descibes their swing, their course management and what they work on.

I would have to disagree with that. If he is playing a shaft with a low kick point and had the ball to far foward, it would result in a slightly thin shot with some top spin on it, this will cause a low ball flight and help induce a hook. I had this problem with a TM R540, changed to a high kickpoint shaft and the problem went away. Even though a low kickpoint shaft should help get the ball up.
I have a medium kickpoint in my driver. Its got to be just something small. The driver for me has always been a club that I generally hit well, so I'm kinda dumfounded with this...lol.
