Swing rotation

G'day

FYI

The following observation was made by Michael Hebron who has done exhaustive analysis of research done on the swing. I believe that understanding this is a major key to effective play:

"Rate of rotation may be the secret of all sports. In coordinated, well timed athletic movements, body parts move at different speeds but feel like they move at a steady rate of rotation

He goes on to say:One key to achieving good sense of rate of rotation is the right forefinger. At address the right forefinger should not apply any pressure to the club. But as the swing starts, rotation causes the shaft to put pressure on the right forefinger and keeps it there until the finish. When a travelling club head moves in front of the shaft, the club will move off the forefinger andthe all-important pressure on the shaft is lost--the left wrist bends and the right goes straight. Unsound swings will move the club off the forefinger before, during or after impact.

Good point. I know when I am swinging consistently well and hitting the ball with power, my right forefinger will wear a groove into the grip. That tells me that their is pressure on my finger throughout the swing.

Interesting.

I might add that if you feel your grip pressure (or right forefinger) increase drastically during any particular point, then you are NOT synchronized. Much like shaking someones hand. If someone pulls on the shake, the grip feels tighter, yet you aren't squeezing any harder. It is the resistance placed on your hands that makes it feel as if your grip is stronger. That means if you don't move with the club, you will feel this pressure in your hands. Paying attention to THAT is key.
