Changing your grip

I FINALLY got to get lessons and in five minutes this guy fixed my whole problem with my hook. My grip was WAY to strong, and i had been doing this for four years....but anyway I switched to a really weak grip so I could hit a controlled fade now but my whole swing feels distorted and just incorrect, its a mircal I can hit the ball. Have any of you ever changed your grips and gone through this? Does it like ever go away...

Even a minor grip change can be very hard to get used to. It feels alien and it seems to take forever to get consistent results. Your first sentence says you should be patient enough to give your new grip a chance. A good grip is one of the most important building blocks to a good swing, so stick with it...it'll get better!

Hi,

Couldn't agree with leaguegolf more, I had a lesson a couple of months ago where the main thing he showed me was that my grip was a problem. He showed me the correct style for me, it still feels "not quite right" and I still have to guard against slipping back to the previous, more "comfortable", grip, you can always tell when I forget, the ball goes heading off into the trees on the right .

Cheers,
Jim
