Interlocking grip is more for players with smaller hands and fingers ala Jack Nichlaus. Its all personal preferance of course but the interlocking grip does resrict the hands somewhat and you are more prone to lose the ball to the right.
I started with the interlocking grip and when I was ohh...15 or so started using the overlap grip and it really improved my game. But I've got fairly big hands as well.
I mean its really what is comfortable to you and it doesn't nessesarily mean that if you have bigger hands that you cannot use an interlocking. Just generally speaking. I like the overlap a lot better myself, but that's just what I've gotten used to.
i initially tried both , couldnt use interlocking so used overlapping ....then when bored in the middle of a game not long back i tried the interlocking and never thought about it again till the last hole when i realised id been using it since
and couldnt go back
I've got bigger hands than most people 5'10", but I use the interlocking grip. It's the only one I've ever used. I grip it very much in my fingertips, though, and I have absolutely no plans to change it. I even use my standard grip when putting. I'm self-taught, but the few times I've tried another grip I haven't liked it at all.
I've tried all the variations of grips, and I always wind up going back to the interlocking grip. It feels the most natural to me and I feel it gives me better control of the club. But like everyone says, it really comes down to preference.
I have pretty large hands( a mens LARGE glove won't even go on my hands) and I use the interlocking grip. I feel very "disconnected" hand-wise with an over lapping or butted(baseball) grip.
Just feels natural to me to interlock. I have no idea where this "small hands thing" comes from.
I started with overlap when I was a youngin'. Then I broke my collar bone skating and after my time off couldn't use the overlap grip? Dunno why. I still try it every once in a while, and it just feels too unctrolled at the top of my swing. Interlock for me!
I was taught the interlocking grip but recently, I've dabbled with the overlap. I tend to think my best shots with the overlap might be a bit longer but I haven't gotten used to it yet. This is why I'm still more consistent with the interlock and continue to use it.
i use an interlocking grip also. i've tried both, but i don't have large hands and it seems to work best for me. i do switch to an overlapping grip though for pitch and chip shots. i seem to have better feel with that for shorter shots.
a friend of mine who is a scratch golfer has used the ole baseball grip his whole life and it works just fine for him, but it sure looks awkward.
