I've always gone straight back and straight through with a little bit of face rotation. If you don't rotate the face of the putter at all, you have to actually rotate your wrists the opposite direction to "keep the face square" the whole time.
I was going to make this a poll, but I goofed when I created it and forgot to choose that option. Oh well.
I use the swinging door one where it moves like this- ) at the ball on long putts and it becomes more straight back and forth on short putts. I actuall have switched to claw becuase it just feels better even though it looks goofy.
I'm still trying to find my style, but I do like to look over onto the ball. I try to keep the stroke straight as possible but naturally, it will arc a little.
i have about 5 different stances with different strokes for each one. i just can't find the right one. i am envious of those who are very comfortable and confident with one stance and stroke.
it's hard to explain, but for me, it just varies from day to day, depending on what i am comfortable with.
My setup and stroke resemble Tiger's. (Obviously not as good...lol. lets not go there)
My grip is really weird. I use left hand low, but tweeked somewhat, and I cannot even explain it here. I was playing around with different grips one night for about an hour and found that this one was very comfortable. That was a year ago and I've stuck with it and my putting has improved. I used to use the conventional grip and didn't putt well. I guess its whatever gives confidence.
do you ever find that putting on the practice green before playing is never the same as putting on the actual course?
i mean, i've(me included) heard many players say geez, i made everything on the practice green and can't make a thing on the course. it's a mystery
stagday
Ohh yeah, true statement totally. Golf courses just take different care of their regular greens opposed to practice greens. Prime reason why (unless you're playing on a very nice course) that if you're on the practice green before the round you should be trying to concentraite on your tempo/stroke rather then actually trying to makethe putt or get a feel for how fast or slow the green is.
That is one thing a lot of people do as far as putting goes...they putt around on the practice green for 10 minutes max before a round and say "Man, why can't I putt....I've been practicing!" There are many putting drills on the net that you can download which actual pros use in their practice sessions and should be worked on sometime different from before a round. Putting before a round is no different then articles I'm sure you've read from Tiger. If you go hit balls on the range before the round, you should just a 7 iron or something and work on loosening up and your tempo, not work on yoru swing. If your swing is out of whack, then 10 minutes before a round isn't going to find it.
