I went out for a round yesterday and I had *ahem* 44 putts! and shot an 89(par73) all of my putts were pretty easy ones that were always lipping out!
Does anyone have a magic recipe to help my putting?
or some weight/line exersizes?
cheers,
Lucy (hehe I'm copying off jim_paulsen.....cheers!)
When my putting got really bad I switched up my grip. I tried claw and left hand low with out practicing with it. I'd try a differnt putting grip with no expectations for the front nine then switch back for the back nine. You'd be suprised how much it helps.
Try the ladder drill and looking at the hole when you are practicing from within 15 feet (should be 80% of your practice). Most of the time lip-outs are from too much speed and probably would have dropped if we let them die into the hole (not my style as I am a charger). Just remember, the harder you hit your putts, the more precise the line must be because more speed = smaller hole.

Yeah, where I play we have cups that are slightly bigger than the ball. You really have to let the ball die to the cup for it to work. I do a ladder drill with them and I makes the hole look more like a grabage can.
Those practice green holes only slightly larger than the ball are wonderful for making the hole on the course huge. Which reminds me, I have to order a few of them on Monday so they are installed before we open on the 15th....
New job JC? You mentioned you were changing jobs but I must've missed the details. "Open on the 15th" suggests a brand new course. Care to share the course info?
I moved over to a Private club from the Port Royal Golf Club on Hilton Head. The new club is slated to open on Monday the 15th of November (if the city gives us our COO for the clubhouse). The golf course was designed by Rocky Roquemore. If you are like me you just said WHO? Most of us haven't really heard of him like Nicklaus or Jones but he did Cog Hill and has done many courses in Europe as well and is now really getting going in the United States with several courses around the country. I know all of the people I work with since I have been working with all of them in some capacity for the last 4 years so the decision wasn't very hard...all of them are fun-loving and all of the instructors think and teach alike...KISS. One of our instructors who is not quite a PGA Member yet (another couple years to go) is heading out to play on the Nationwide Tour next year. He is one of the best NON-Tour players I have ever seen...the investors backing him will definitely see a return on their investment as this guy can do it all... Should be a fun learning experience for me as I have not worked the Private sector until now.
Good luck to you with you new responsibilities. I'm sure you're aware that Private Club's members can, at times, be a real pain in the area some will expect you to "kiss".
Hey Girl,
I have two things that I do that might help you. First off i walk the distance on every putt. For me one short step is a yard. then I calculate that into feet and tell myself how long it is and talk to myself about the other factors, uphill, upgrain, etc. Six months ago i was a horrible putter. scale of 1-10 I would give myself a 4. Since I started doing this I consistently two putt most everytime, last 36 holes I failed to two putt once. I consistently two putt from 60 feet and in. I just think the subconscious stores the distances and relays that to my putting stroke without me thinking about it. For a month I stopped doing this and started three putting 2-3 times a round so i went back to it and now stick with it. Now on 15 footers or less I sometimes look at the length and guesstimate the feet.
The other thing i do is a drill where drop six balls from a given distance, say 40 feet, and putt all six from there. Then I go to the ball FURTHEST from the hole and proceed to hit all six balls from there untill I make six in a row. This drill gives me a lot of confidence on my short and long putts. Just doing these two things alone have improved my putting drastically. Putting is now my most consistent part of my game, had 30 putts today. I just have to start working more on making 10-20 footers.
Point the name on the ball toward the hole or the brake. Watch the name as the ball rolls and see if it creats a ribbon on the ball as it moves. To help you see the ribbon draw a line under the name. If you see no ribbon or it wabbles your stoke is not back and through and a side spin is causes the ball to lip out.
Learn to putt creating a ribbon with the name of the ball. This type of practice will help you creat true overspin which will make the ball dive into the hole not lip out.
Sounds like someone has a bad case of the "me, me, me's!"
yup and someone talking about their new job in someone's post has a case of the me's. Thanks for pointing that out. I thought the same thing when I read the reply.
Putting is nothing but practice, practice, practice. I'd agree on the speed thing. Try "dying" the ball in the hole more. Not saying that last bit of movemnet left in the ball makes it fall in, but try a little less speed....of course you'll have to play more break then.
