Common reason for impact a bit toward the toe?

Hi everyone, I hope you're all having a great weekend!

After 150 balls at my local range, the scuff marks from the balls seem to indicate impact is tending to be a bit toward the toe of my irons.

That is, if you think of a quarter sized sweet spot on cavity back irons, my typical impact location is more or less centered at the far outside edge of that circle.

The divots I was taking are pretty straight down the target line, and I am wondering if there is a simple way to change my set up or anything else to center my impact more so that my good shots go a little farther and my mishits aren't drastic toe impacts.

Thanks!

Mike M.

Hi Allen,

When I practice I'd say 8 out of 10 shots fly straight or move a little right to left. I tend to pull or slice if my 'hit' impulse takes over and my arms get ahead of everything else in the swing.

mrm, so you're right handed?

I know this sounds like an easy tip but it's worth a try. If you're constantly hitting off of the toe, maybe it might help to move a tad closer to the ball.

Three main causes of toe hits:

1. As Victory correctly stated, standing too far from the ball.

2. Swinging Outside-to-In usually results in a toe hit.

3. Not allowing your arms to extend through impact (chicken winging) will also result in a toe hit.

Not that these are the only ways to hit the ball consistently on the toe but they are the most common causes of toe hits.
