Hello everyone, my first submission. 63 year old senior playing in Devon in the UK. For my Overseas friends the UK starts at Lands end in the County of Cornwall, Devon is the neighbouring County.
Now about AJ`s DVD`s Despite some adverse coments earlier, I personally have found them to be of GREAT assistance. Yes one has to have the basis of a swing but TOO much is made of this by all the "education" facilities I have looked at. I talk of Golf channels, Magazines, training aids and all other sorts of paraphenalia. These DVD`s have been my Nemesis.
I have had the recordings for a few weeks and even in the middle of a British winter (England is not Britain, we are made up of 4 countries) I have found a great difference.
Applying his principals I am now striking the ball crisply, straight and long. I don`t think about my swing but use my hand eye co-ordination. Keep a regular tempo and I hit the ball as good as and better than my club colleagues.
My game around the green has been greatly enhanced, my chipping and putting really improved. So much so that I played 2 over for the first 9 and 7 over for the back. Yesterday I was 4 under par for a net 66 and 40 points.
I contribute all this improvement to the application of AJ`s teaching.
I just cannot understand people who po po such a great learning tool. If there is something on the market I have tried it, bought it and rejected it. My AJ discs are staying with me.
Just listening to David Leadbetter doing a lesson on the Golf Channel - "left hand here, right forearm here, feet here, club diagonally across hand, hands too straight, fingers too long." Give me a break.
Come the better weather I feel that my game can only improve.
I am now in the process of buying a specific disc re the driver.
It took 4 years for these recordings to come to my notice. I wish it had been sooner. Leadbetter is still going on about strength of grips, A fool and his money is easily parted. Yes I do have his Swing Plane Trainer.
I watched a ll three parts of this instrucional series last night. I went to the range before work this morning. Bottom line...the ball goes straight. Driver, iron,Hybrid(Used my dad's hybrid for the first time yesterday...love them now). Every club. I can go straight now(not every time...but close to).
I do not think the videos will help someone who already knows how to hit good shots. It sure will help any beginners like myslef though.
He explains everything VERY well...explaining the basic physics of the golf clubs. Many people do not KNOW how they work...they just ASSUME that they know.
r
I couldn't agree more. I think most people that have nothing but negative things to say about the videos either a) haven't seen them, or b) watched them and said, "That's %*$&," and didn't even bother trying what he suggests.
I think the AJ videos are stupendous for beginners and all, ALL high handicappers.
Just listening to David Leadbetter doing a lesson on the Golf Channel - "left hand here, right forearm here, feet here, club diagonally across hand, hands too straight, fingers too long." Give me a break.
Bingo! How can you swing a golf club thinking about all that garbage? I bought the AJ vids last year, went to the range once (on a Friday), and the next day shot the easiest 90 I ever shot in my life.
I tried to watch those tapes ones, but after 40 min of babbling about scottish shepards, I gave up, there just can't be anything more boring then those tapes!
I can,t comment on these tapes as i hav,nt seen them but there certainly is a mixed view at gr,i do fancy getting some dvds but they all say that they can boost your drives by 30 or more yards and improve your short game and putting and take several strokes off your handicap,i think i will go to a store and check some out, when i,m online i,m nearly at the buy now stage and then i back off,i get emails from people who want to sell me dvds and they give me free tips hoping that if i like the sample then i might buy,i save all the tips from a few of these dealers on my computer and get lessons for free, and then i found gr and i get more free excellent advice, thanks to gr i am driving straight, and thanks to gr i am coming down on the ball which means i hit a twenty foot chip onto a risen green with the flag at front and it landed and stopped one inch from pin,i was on the hill at the side of a risen green 6 ft away and i put it in the hole,as bruce lee said keep what works and throw away what doesn,t.so thanks for the free lessons guys and maybe i will get round to getting a dvd
I am pleased to see there has been some replies after my submission. I have re read all the contributions and it appears to me that the main negative replies come from people who have not even seen the DVD`s. I suppose they think the Earth is still flat. Yes AJ does go into great detail but just listen, he presents his theory very well and is amusing with it. The Scottish shepherd with his crook and wee rrrrrround stone is typical.
So for you detractors - watch and learn. I tell you something, I now go the course with a song in my heart, I KNOW I am going to hit the ball well, it is just a matter of the finesse shots around and on the green.
One thing in the videos I thought was interesting...
AJ hit great shots with all his weight on his front leg the whole time...and then with the weight on the back leg the whole time. He just left is other leg there to keep his balance so he would not fall over. All that stuff you listed: stance, address, posture, grip, backswing, weight shift and downswing...I think that is the culprit of a lot of beginner golfers' downfall. There is just too much **** to worry about with your swing, that you can't hit the dang ball. If you can put the center of gravity of the club face on the equator of the ball...with the club face square...you are hitting good straight shots right where you want them(of course it takes practice to become more consistent...).
So many people have different swings, but are such good golfers. One that is mentioned on the video is Jim Furyk. His swing is way unorthodox. Yet what does he have in common with the classic swing of Tiger Woods? They both get the club face to the position that they want it in(more consistently than ametures anyway). Everyone swings different...so how can you teach a swing. A swing is like a fingerprint. They are unique...because our bodies are unique. Sure some are similar...but none are the same.
My swing might ****...but I can hit the ball pretty straight now...after only 1 day. As long as I hit that ball square with the center of my club face...the golf club...my TOOL...will do what it is supposed to do and send the ball flying.
Now, there are other things to learn I suppose if you want more power. But to be able to hit straight shots...or draw shots...this video does work. Just watch it and take it in. I thought it was stupid at first...cause the guy just talks through the first 2 parts. But it all made very good sense.
I have the files in DivX(.avi) format. If someone wants me to host them somewhere so you can download them, I will gladly do so. There are three files. 2 are like 350MB and one is like 450MB. They are all three about 40 minutes in length.
