Experiance

Ive been playing golf for about 1month and a half now and ive gotten better.. I was just wondering how long did it take you long time golf players to become completly comfortable with your golf swing and able to get more consistant with hitting the ball and getting it airborne. It might be different with some people but I just want to know how it was for you during the time you just started playing the game..?

I've been playing since September. Its starting to get there. Just not consistently. I can feel when its right and I can feel when its wrong.

I belive there are 4 stages.

Unconsciously Incompetent - you can't do it and don't know why
Consiously Incompetent - You know whats wrong
Consiously Competent - To do it well you have to think about it alit
Unconsiously Competent - It just happens

Anyhow I think you can get somewhere in the middle quickly but it takes many many years to get to the last one

Hmm.... I started golf when I was 10, so have been playing for about 4 years.
I'ld say I felt comfortable with my swing, just a few months ago.... and now that I feel comfortable with my swing and it is usually consistent... my scores are just going down soooo fast.
I'ld say you need at least 2 yrs before you can actually hit the ball fairly good most of the time!
I also get pro coaching every two weeks, so that helps!... how I have to work on my short game

Let's see now...playing golf for 45 years...comfortable with my swing, maybe 5 or 6 days...consistent with my swing, perhaps 2 or 3 rounds...happy with my total game, 5 or 6 holes?

Answer to your question about how long does it take? A lifetime!

Maybe not the same 45 years but with 27 years I would agree to this chain of events.

valeogut - We've been playing almost the same amount of years, and I cannot agree with you more.

Golf equipment manufacturers would go broke if we were satisfied with our swings and games. No matter how good we play, we're always looking to improve.

There comes a time, however, when we at least are confident that the ball will get airborne and land relatively close to where we want it to go - maybe thats when a person breaks 100? After that, there are many factors that will dictate how much lower a person can score - I think the major ones are good swing mechanics, athleticism and practice. Just my opinion.

I don't know about you, GenErr, but I'm looking forward to the next 45! Golf just never gets "old."

I go to the range 3 to 4 times a week. I do 60 balls, then chipping and putting. As it will take a few years to truly get a comfortable swing the short game needs a lot of work. Going to the range it can be easy to forget that.

I am working on setting up facilities at home to home the swing a bit and save cash and time at the range. Wife and kids get in the way sometimes.

I'll second that. How about I can fast forward to 21 and then stay there for the rest of my life.

My dear, I didn't start playing golf until I was 12 years old. Do the math.

But you're right about 45 being old; I'm just older!
