Hi everyone. I'm a beginner who still has a problem getting the ball in the air on about 1/3 to 1/2 of my shots. Even on a good day, when I do get the ball up most of the time, I don't have anywhere near the trajectory that my playing partners do. This problem even exists with my short irons. I've read many books and watched many videos, and know that I must swing down to get the ball up. My problem is *how*. I have taken about 15 lessons (and just started another series of 5 lessons) and still have this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

P.S.- I know that this is about 99% poor technique, but... would game improvement clubs help? If so, any suggestions? I'm going to post more extensively about this on the eqipment forum.
hey man I also just started playing golf about 5 weeks ago without any lessons and i find it easier to hit with small short tees with my irons it helped me and i also realized its all in the timing you cant ever take your eye off the ball....if you go to a driving range and you see people that hit well and looked like they are experiance with golf you should ask them what they see is wrong in your golf swing..tips dont always help but practice makes perfect.
I also started 6 weeks ago, and get the ball airborne more with the shorter irons, rarely with #5, almost always with #9, I am not using tees even for tee-off, I want to get my driving consistent with my irons before I use tees and before I move to woods...
I tried woods on my first games, and the ball would go all over the place...
A complete beginner would do well to hit every club off a tee (even if a very low tee) at the range at first, just to get the feel of hitting the ball and making consistent, solid contact, starting with the short irons. When you can hit the ball consistently off a tee, then put it on the grass or mat and again start with your shortest irons and work your way up.
It doesn't sound very exciting, but it will save you--and the golfers in the groups behind you on the course--a lot of frustration if you learn to hit the ball consistently at the range before you take to the course.
First off, "game improvement" clubs will definitely not help you get the ball airborne. I hate to be a wet blanket, but after 15 lessons, you really shouldn't be having this much trouble with this. I'd suggest another instructor, maybe, for your next lessons. Also, some of the obvious that has already been mentioned.... hit down & through the ball, don't try to "lift" it. Try not to worry about hitting the ground with your club, etc. Good Luck.
O.T. - What part of NY are you from ? I lived a good bit of my early youth in the Syracuse & NYC suburbs.
Thanks, Girlgolfa. That's a terrific site! By the way, New Zealand (and Australia, sorry. I know that there's a rivalry.) are my dream vacation places.

Easier said than done...
Thats what I did with the lessons and pratice in between, but didnt help much when I got to the field, so I went back to basics, irons without tees, and I am improving a lot faster this way, IMHO...
And dont worry, as I stay on the fairway, even with short distance no one has to wait for me, actually, lately we have been waiting for the groups ahead of us...
