Nasty Habit

I'm 6 but it's only because my short game is good. My driving * and my iron game has a lot to be desired. Anyway, I was watching the video of my swing and I noticed my down swing starts with pushing hard form my right foot. It mgiht give me a powerful push but it also moves the center of my body to left. My head, my body the whole thing moves about 3-4 inches to the left before I hit the ball. So the result is a bit stuck swing with low fade/slice most of the time. It's manageable but once in a while it gets bad ( normally under stressful situation ).

Anyone has a good drill to fix this problem? It also cause me come over top too.

Thanks in advance for your insightful advice.

Stick a broken shaft in the ground outside your left foot, touching it. Don't let your hips move the shaft. If your head moves during the shot you are swinging at a moving target. The head must never move forward, at all. Back a little on the takeaway is acceptable so long as it stays there, not moving forward. I call all of this "staying behind the ball".

I stay behind perfectly during practice swing but when I hit a real ball, this happens again. I concentrate a lot to prevent this but video shows I fail most of the time.

You probably do it to generate power...use the stick at the range and don't worry at first about how far it goes just learn to stay behind the stick (pivot) and hit it straight(ish)...once you get comfortable with it you can begin to apply a little more power while still maintaining control. It'll feel strange at first but if you think moving laterally is causing you control problems then it'll be worth the time invested in fixing it. Good luck with it. Btw there will be others reading and contributing to this thread so please report back any results, even if they're negative ones so that way someone can suggest something else.

A well-balanced and well-executed golf shot is like a graceful dance move...seemingly effortless but a lot harder to do correctly than it appears.

Stay behind the ball.

Since i've been working on a later release i've started the same thing and ending up s******g a good few shots as my hips sway forward. i'm trying to visualize staying in a more seated position till just before impact.Someone will correct me if i'm wrong but this is the strong left side that we hear so much about.
